Holy shit. Why did /mu/ never tell me solo Peter Gabriel was this good? Sounds like every 80s pop record was influenced by this while not being nearly as innovative.
>>126799743 (OP)I only listened to So and Solsbury Hill
>>126799743 (OP)>Why did /mu/ never tell me solo Peter Gabriel was this good? because /mu/ is loaded with insecure contrarian twatwaffles.
Solo peter gabriel is amazing, especially the first 5 or 6 albums.
>>126799743 (OP)You needed to be told about Peter Gabriel?
Peter Gabriel [Mercury, 1980]
Peter Gabriel on Atco gives way to. . .Peter Gabriel on Mercury, replacing DIY DOR with pessimistic art-rock minidrama, while side two opens with "Games Without Frontiers," about a different kind of internationalism, and closes with "Biko," about a different kind of Africanism. Either he underestimates his own strengths or his audience or both. B-
III and IV are two of my favorite albums of all time.
>solves prog
>"huh, guess that isn't working out anymore"
>solves pop instead
>>126799967King Crimson solved prog in 69
>>126799979and if we play "6 degrees of Tony Levin" we can draw the line to Robert Fripp (in KC) to peter gabriel, also RF produced "scratch" (peter gabriel's 2nd album).
IMHO the stripped-down version of Here Comes The Flood on RF's Exposure album is vastly superior to the one on the PG record
>>126799786I only knew him as the Sledgehammer guy. Didn't know he was making albums with Robert Fripp.
Intruder is by far the best song. Games Without Frontiers is annoying.
every one of his solo records has like 2-4 god tier songs and a bunch of stuff thats not for me. if he made a whole record of big time and sledgehammer it would've been the greatest record of all time
