For me it was a "Lydia Lunch and Marc Hurtado cover Suicide" show this year
>dogshit opener consisting of a bunch of female art students making terrible "ironic" electropop with "funny" feminist lyrics
>Lydia and Marc come to the stage with a bottle of Hennessy that they would empty during the set
>Lydia looks like absolute dogshit even by her standards
>sounds almost as bad
>they completely butcher the Suicide songs while claiming it was a "new interpretation"
>goes on huge, minute-long rant about smartphones and flips off the like 2 people who dared to film her from far back (no, I did not film that day)

I've seen dozens of shows with people way past their prime, but this one was easily the worst.

I went to a Three Dog Night show at an Indian casino in the middle of nowhere. They didn't play some of their big songs everybody expected them to, it was like a two hour drive for a one hour show, no other acts, whats-his-nuts went on a tirade about some artist taking a song that they wrote and covering it without permission and making it big, then had the fucking balls to play One immediately after that which was written by Harry Nilsson. It turns out that after the show they went to the casino bar and eventually got kicked out for being disruptive cocks all night.

It was disappointing to say the least.

animal collective in 2009 was one of the worst ive seen, was at a smallish festival though. others like death grips, mogwai, most indie rock bands 2008-2018
desu it would be easier for me to name bands that are better live than on record, the opposite happens too but its actually more rare in my experience (300+ shows at least)

Sebadoh. would've been around 92 or 3. weekday show, didn't come on until after like 1am, kept stopping and starting. Lou kept rambling and was tripping or on some fucking thing. wanted someone to fix the electricity that was making his amp smoke. there was no smoke coming from his amp.
not even into sebadoh but my friend talked me into going. complete waste of time and money.

tie: Link Wray in 2002. he had Alzheimer's and just talked the whole time. sucks because it was an expensive venue and I was super stoked because he fucking ruled in the 50s

I saw Lydia Lunch, she did a great cover of Alice Cooper's Black Juju. For me, it was this garage band that's been active since the 80s. Something-tones. And I like garage rock, obviously.

It's honestly hilarious and sad watching bands age. They keep going on tours nobody asked for and finding all of the worst bands that are carbon copies of the shit they were into back in New York, during the 70's.

> Opening band was so loud that it was physically painful to listen to

> Main show was shit. The PA was fucked up so I couldn’t make out any of the vocals

> Weird pasty bass player stood with his back to the audience the whole time and I got an eyeful of his asscrack and skin tags

the mars volta around the deloused era. they just did a bunch of boring aimless noodling for like 90 minutes, every once in a while kind of hitting on an actual song for a minute but then going back to the noodling. everyone in the crowd was clearly getting restless and annoyed

When I was in school, I went and saw a band called Remedy Drive with this short nerdy girl I was trying to fuck. She told me she was a fan of them but she was on her phone the whole time they played. She was cold, and I was getting bored being there. It just wasn't happening. And the music was meh. Nobody was dancing or anything, but the band was enthusiastic throughout, kept trying to hype up the dead crowd. The singer brought up how you could download one of their songs on Rock Band. It was 2012. I don't even think Guitar Hero was around anymore. He managed to bring it up four more times while I was still there though, and I wasn't there long.

Eventually I just left her without saying anything. Took the bus home. She waited until, like, two hours later, all the way to the end of the show, before I heard anything from her. She doesn't call or text me at all, but there is a post on her Facebook that read something like "I think the guy I came here with just ditched me! WTF? I have the car, I drove us here!"

She couldn't figure out how I got home. She ended up being valedictorian of her class.

Went to see Christian Death a few years back and that was pretty pathetic. Musically they were alright but so clearly past caring and only in it for the money. Lead singer was absolutely washed and his similarly old female bandmate looked absolutely pissed throughout the show and especially when he went on to bring some underage goth groupies on the stage to dance with him for the last few songs. strange experience overall

>one of the greatest live punk acts, even into their old age

My dad took me to see blue man group in Chicago where they did a regular show when I was about 12 and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
They did a tour a few years later and came to my city and my whole family went and they didn't do any of the fun performance shit, just played covers of radio rock songs with a more conventional band. It was awful.
Not even sure what their deal was come to think of it. Was there more than one "Blue Man Group"? I mostly just remember them from Arrested Development these days.
