My first guitar lessons went pretty well. The 1 hour format really helped instead of 30 minutes. Learned about 3 string chords, how to bar chords and part of a Beatles song. I probably won't finish learning eleanor Rigby cus it's a pretty gay song. I was trying to learn a duster song I like but I cant get my strings to stop ringing when I do open string notes. I'll keep at it after a little bass playing

How big of a deal is fret buzz to you on an electric when you can’t hear it through the amp? I’ve got a guitar with a really low cut nut because the previous owner filed the nut down super low instead of just shimming the neck, and now my D string buzzes when open and the E and A strings buzz on some fretted notes. I can only hear it acoustically, it sounds fine though the amp. It’s super annoying though and I’m debating driving nearly two hours each way to the nearest guitar tech to drop it off and have him replace the nut and just set it all up professionally while he’s got it.

Subtle overdrive. The kind where you can't hear the distortion unless you play a little harder. More bass eq, less treble. The closer you stum to the mid point of the fretted note and bridge, the more mellow, rounded and glassy(?) sounding it gets. A lot can be accomplished by the way you play the guitar (if you play acoustic a decent amount, you might know what I mean). But alot can be accomplished with the settings on your equipment, too. When you use both avenues together you can alter your tone significantly. I would suggest playing your acoustic and seeing how much you can alter the tone by how you physically play it. Picking close to the bridge is a higher treble sound. Closer to the middle of the fret board is less treble. You can slightly mute strings as you strum (with the pad of your hand), creating a low harmonic chugging sound (not palm muting, it is strumming and having the pad of your hand brush the strings at almost the same time as the pick). Neil Young would do this alot. A good example of this is the Massey Hall performance in 71'. Listen to cowgirl in the Sand from that album. Some electric guitar tones are such that it cuts off the subtleties. That isn't a bad thing, but being aware of the point you are choking off these qualities is useful. Even with high gain you want to be able to change the distortion level with the dynamics you are playing with.

I'm about to order an sbs ss260. I got a firefly MMFN the other day and it was such a piece of shit I just dropped it off to return. It was the white relic, looked great, felt and sounded like shit and came with a broken tone knob, they told me to get it fixed so i told them to go fuck themselves. The SBS guitars have much better quality control and quality parts for like 50 more bucks. Just trying to figure out what color to get. I'm a little torn between red and green. Even the purple I like. I've played fender strats and jags for 14 years. Need a shredder with a floyd. Anyone have any experience with SBS or guitarfetish?

don't. They are prioritizing getting plugins (read: paid DLC) into the machine instead of new effects/amps/QoL features. Their paid DLC isn't even that much better than the stock models on the device in teh first place.

There's been SIX MONTHS with no update. Their communication is garbage and they keep making promises that never get delivered. Meanwhile the unit is pretty bare-bones in terms of FX compared to the competition.

This is the secret to buying solid bodies. Play it for a few minutes before plugging it in so you can hear how well it "projects" acoustically and so you can feel the resonance.

NTA but I found this to be true when I got my LP. Its alive in my hands as I play it, I feel it resonating against my body. If I pull the EVH trick and set it on a table it projects like a tiny amp.
It's not just solid-bodies, I was watching a luthier video about classical guitars and at a certain price point you see a phenomenon where they are alive and vibrating even when sitting in a stand. They are so well-built that they are always reacting to every vibration in the room. You can feel someone talking nearby through your palm, it's wild.

Yes exactly, acoustics and hollow bodies are more prone to this obviously. Ive used and seen this technique used in recording before, throw a mic or two on an acoustic in a stand and let it project the sympathetic frequencies its picking up. I mentioned solid bodies specifically though because they don't have the advantage of giant pockets of air to help it along. Sometimes the ingredients come together just right and you get a standout instrument from a run of seemingly identical units. Its one of the reasons Im weird about buying guitars without playing them first.

More often than not it means A major scale, and all relative scales apply just as well,
A Major(Ionian)
B Dorian
C# Phrygian
D Lydian
E Mixolydian
F# Locrian (it's unlikely to ever be a tonal center)
G# Minor(Aeolian)
Now, for all major modes here(Ionian, Lydian, Mixolydian), you might sometimes shift to their actual major scale, and minor ones (Dorian, Phrygian, Aeolian) you might use notes from actual Aeolian minor scale. Borrowing from those will result in dissonance and you have to keep track of what is actually being played at a given time.

Lol after struggling with guitar for a long time I picked up bass and I'm having way more fun. For some reason learning a scale here doesn't feel like getting a zipbomb in my brain and with slower songs I can just slowly chug along if I find some decent notes. Maybe I'll finally learn some theory and get decent

Are F# and G# switched here? All the others are in order of the A major scale, which I've never seen spelled out like that before. I thought it had suddenly made sense, but those are the wrong way round, so I'm not so sure.

it’s a good starting point but in my experience in a band setting your job as a bassist is much more strict than a guitarist, so playing at a high level is much more challenging for me than guitar

I've been watching videos where they play the same riff on different kinds of guitars (strat, tele, lp etc.) or the same riff on guitars at different price points. They all sound pretty much the same to me. Do I have dumb dumb ears, or are guitars a scam that are all the same?

I get what you mean. They all sound different but in ways that don't matter. I've always been of the persuasion that you can make due with what you got as long as it plays well. In the end they all sound like a guitar because that's what it is.

he’s playing on the bridge pickup with crunch/distortion in all of those. worst case scenario for hearing the difference between guitars. to really hear the difference you want to be relatively clean or strumming at least. check out this video it’s a les Paul with coil tap which is basically making it a single coil. You should be able to hear this difference

I can buy a guitar at a premium price point and know that it more than likely doesnt need to be touched outside of setting it up with new strings and a different tuning. Cheaper guitars can sometimes need much more attention which is fine if you're into leveling/crowning/polishing frets, adjusting necks, etc. People often justify cheaper guitars by just upgrading the electronics and hardware along the way. Id rather just avoid that. Not to say you cant overpay for a complete shitplank, but the quality control is usually much higher.

Anybody with a Jackson JS32?
Where I live, the only options with 24 frets that I have are Jackson, shecter and ibanez but those two only have strats and I find the shape very boring
Jackson X and Pro models are built with floyd rose only and I want something that I can change the tuning on the fly...
So here's my idea
Buy a JS32 king v and put a decent pick up on it and give it a really good set up
Should I do it or not
Don't ignore please lol

cheap guitars are fine just change the tuners. biggest problem you have to watch out for on poverty guitars are twisted necks. there is no fixing that, but those are bolt on necks anyway

I wouldn't go that thick. I use 10s on 25.5 scale and 11s feel perfect on 24.75, even in e flat. Just not sure for the low strings. I like 52 on my Jackson so I might just go for it on the LP as well.
