My first guitar lessons went pretty well. The 1 hour format really helped instead of 30 minutes. Learned about 3 string chords, how to bar chords and part of a Beatles song. I probably won't finish learning eleanor Rigby cus it's a pretty gay song. I was trying to learn a duster song I like but I cant get my strings to stop ringing when I do open string notes. I'll keep at it after a little bass playing

My ears arent used to this, it sounds weird but it works.
How big of a deal is fret buzz to you on an electric when you canโt hear it through the amp? Iโve got a guitar with a really low cut nut because the previous owner filed the nut down super low instead of just shimming the neck, and now my D string buzzes when open and the E and A strings buzz on some fretted notes. I can only hear it acoustically, it sounds fine though the amp. Itโs super annoying though and Iโm debating driving nearly two hours each way to the nearest guitar tech to drop it off and have him replace the nut and just set it all up professionally while heโs got it.

>>126817166Subtle overdrive. The kind where you can't hear the distortion unless you play a little harder. More bass eq, less treble. The closer you stum to the mid point of the fretted note and bridge, the more mellow, rounded and glassy(?) sounding it gets. A lot can be accomplished by the way you play the guitar (if you play acoustic a decent amount, you might know what I mean). But alot can be accomplished with the settings on your equipment, too. When you use both avenues together you can alter your tone significantly. I would suggest playing your acoustic and seeing how much you can alter the tone by how you physically play it. Picking close to the bridge is a higher treble sound. Closer to the middle of the fret board is less treble. You can slightly mute strings as you strum (with the pad of your hand), creating a low harmonic chugging sound (not palm muting, it is strumming and having the pad of your hand brush the strings at almost the same time as the pick). Neil Young would do this alot. A good example of this is the Massey Hall performance in 71'. Listen to cowgirl in the Sand from that album. Some electric guitar tones are such that it cuts off the subtleties. That isn't a bad thing, but being aware of the point you are choking off these qualities is useful. Even with high gain you want to be able to change the distortion level with the dynamics you are playing with.

>>126821490>>126821574Well, it's a keeper. I'm enjoying just strumming it. It's got a few superficial dings, but this is nice. Mahogany grain looks pretty cool on a Strat too.
>>126821735I personally really like mahogany, the D-18 is mahogany and it sounds warm and incredible. And most of gibson's current stock is using it too.
>>126821735Holy shit, I just noticed that plastic layer is still on it. This is a 2007 guitar. lol
Any songs like eleanor Rigby that use 3 string chords that are easy to play? I dont really like this song and I'm struggling with it
>>126820781It's used seldom, even for spooky, because it sounds so odd (the root doesn't even have a natural fifth). If you haven't learned it yet, it's literally the major scale except you start on 7th before the root, or another way of describing it would be phrygian except the fifth is lowered a half step.
>>126821767kek when I put a loaded pickguard in my strat with new pickups, i forgot to take the plastic cover off the pick guard before screwing it down, and then it wouldn't come off cleanly. i have to take it completely off to get the little bits and pieces of plastic stuck around the screws.
im just being lazy about it but it looks like shit.
>>126821767take it off, slut
>>126821767False alarm. Just looks like remnants of it.
>>126821574>where they are alive and vibrating even when sitting in a standYes exactly, acoustics and hollow bodies are more prone to this obviously. Ive used and seen this technique used in recording before, throw a mic or two on an acoustic in a stand and let it project the sympathetic frequencies its picking up. I mentioned solid bodies specifically though because they don't have the advantage of giant pockets of air to help it along. Sometimes the ingredients come together just right and you get a standout instrument from a run of seemingly identical units. Its one of the reasons Im weird about buying guitars without playing them first.
>>126821805Its definitely still there, I can see it above the neck pickup too. Scratch it with a fingernail, I know you want to
>>126821877this, the previous owner kept her virgin for you anon... ravage her...
>>126821877I'm trying. It's weird. It looks like that stuff, but it must not be. It's gonna bug me now.
>>126821794you just need to back the screws out a couple of turns
>>126821934Ah shit thats the special resonance coating
>>126816159I'm a comolete retard but if I understand well when they tell you they play in A it means if you know some some scales, you should play it starting on an A note and if you play the notes in the scale or turn them into chords they'll sound good. And with scales you can kinda copypaste them after each other so if you need to beef up the low notes or get some higher ones you can extend the key by just going further on the scale in one direction
>>126822120Eh, whatever. I'll probably get a new pg anyway. Sort of planned on this being a project guitar, but wanted a good base to work with. Right now, it's got the Jimmy Vaughn Tex Mex and a Diamondback HB. I like the Tex Mex, but the HB is OK. Apparently they used to make it to couple with the Tex Mex.

For some of these you will have to drop the root or bottom of the chord if you insist on only playing on the tremble strings. The songs vary in difficulty but are within reach if you want to learn it bad enough.
>>126816159>>126822205More often than not it means A major scale, and all relative scales apply just as well,
A Major(Ionian)
B Dorian
C# Phrygian
D Lydian
E Mixolydian
F# Locrian (it's unlikely to ever be a tonal center)
G# Minor(Aeolian)
Now, for all major modes here(Ionian, Lydian, Mixolydian), you might sometimes shift to their actual major scale, and minor ones (Dorian, Phrygian, Aeolian) you might use notes from actual Aeolian minor scale. Borrowing from those will result in dissonance and you have to keep track of what is actually being played at a given time.

>>126823278bass player here. do whatever you want little guitar bro, Iโll make sure you sound good
>>126823303Lol after struggling with guitar for a long time I picked up bass and I'm having way more fun. For some reason learning a scale here doesn't feel like getting a zipbomb in my brain and with slower songs I can just slowly chug along if I find some decent notes. Maybe I'll finally learn some theory and get decent
>>126822708Are F# and G# switched here? All the others are in order of the A major scale, which I've never seen spelled out like that before. I thought it had suddenly made sense, but those are the wrong way round, so I'm not so sure.
>>126822650It says gibson on the headstock, it's worth it man it's a not shart it's hekkin.worth.it.

>>126821892not a virgin unless the backplate film is on too
>>126823418Cool. I can't believe I've never seen it put like that before. It makes a lot more sense that way. Usually it's all the modes of a note.
>>126823369itโs a good starting point but in my experience in a band setting your job as a bassist is much more strict than a guitarist, so playing at a high level is much more challenging for me than guitar
>>126822695>Daniel Caesar (with H.E.R) - Best Partthanks i already love this song so ill give this a try tonight.
>>126814639Root note and the following 7 steps then the root again, usually over two repetitions of the scale in the pattern for a six-string mode
Gonna trade my SG standard for an American Preformer Tele with humbucker in the neck
I've been watching videos where they play the same riff on different kinds of guitars (strat, tele, lp etc.) or the same riff on guitars at different price points. They all sound pretty much the same to me. Do I have dumb dumb ears, or are guitars a scam that are all the same?
My tremolo springs are tuned to G
>>126823741you should hear some difference. can you post an example video
>>126823741those videos are dumb. expensive guitars feel better, that's what you're paying for.
>>126823741I get what you mean. They all sound different but in ways that don't matter. I've always been of the persuasion that you can make due with what you got as long as it plays well. In the end they all sound like a guitar because that's what it is.
>parents bought me an American Pro II Strat for my 25th birthday
>great guitar, wonderful gift, have never gotten a gift as expensive as that
>but Iโve already got a Strat I like more
>thinking about selling the birthday gift Strat to fund another guitar I want more
>>126823820Things like this.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KMZXBFkQq0k
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-D0kgkncTKQ
>>126823824I can see how that would be a factor.
>>126823835There is a slight difference, but not enough when there's 100s of dollars difference in price.
>>126823741A Kia will get you across town just as fast as a Mercedes
>>126823855you don't sell a birthday guitar, man
>>126823882heโs playing on the bridge pickup with crunch/distortion in all of those. worst case scenario for hearing the difference between guitars. to really hear the difference you want to be relatively clean or strumming at least. check out this video itโs a les Paul with coil tap which is basically making it a single coil. You should be able to hear this difference
https://youtu.be/LjwJUzujNe8
>>126823741I can buy a guitar at a premium price point and know that it more than likely doesnt need to be touched outside of setting it up with new strings and a different tuning. Cheaper guitars can sometimes need much more attention which is fine if you're into leveling/crowning/polishing frets, adjusting necks, etc. People often justify cheaper guitars by just upgrading the electronics and hardware along the way. Id rather just avoid that. Not to say you cant overpay for a complete shitplank, but the quality control is usually much higher.

Anybody with a Jackson JS32?
Where I live, the only options with 24 frets that I have are Jackson, shecter and ibanez but those two only have strats and I find the shape very boring
Jackson X and Pro models are built with floyd rose only and I want something that I can change the tuning on the fly...
So here's my idea
Buy a JS32 king v and put a decent pick up on it and give it a really good set up
Should I do it or not
Don't ignore please lol
(LOCAL MARKET IS FUCKED BY THE WAY, CHIBSONS AND COPIES ALL AROUND)
>>126824226are you talking about the model with a tremolo or the hardtail?
>>126824226cheap guitars are fine just change the tuners. biggest problem you have to watch out for on poverty guitars are twisted necks. there is no fixing that, but those are bolt on necks anyway
>>126822832>>126822941I wouldn't go that thick. I use 10s on 25.5 scale and 11s feel perfect on 24.75, even in e flat. Just not sure for the low strings. I like 52 on my Jackson so I might just go for it on the LP as well.
>>126824254Hardtail definitely, not messing with a floyd
>>126824276Should I kill it with grover or is there another decent (and cheaper) brand?
>>126824371>Hardtail definitely, not messing with a floydI have the Rhoads, its a good guitar, you probably won't even have to change the pups, they're good too
Do you plan to get the red or black King V? Looks like they don't offer other colors with a hardtail
>>126824106HSS.
Humbucker neck pickup sounds like muddy shit
>>126824371I always buy name brand personally. Iโm sure thereโs a cheaper option out there I just donโt know what it is
>>126824408Nice thank you man
I only trust people from here...
I'm getting the black one, wish it was matte but we can't have it all after all
The Ivory Rhoads looks pretty nice ngl but I prefer things to be symmetrical
>>126824422I will get them then... Thanks!
>>126824445The RRs have a balance issue, the neck is heavier than the body. there are fixes for that but...
iirc the King V doesn't have that problem
>>126824445you can wait to see how bad the stock tuners are first. sometimes theyโre ok, I just know the last two strings on a Jackson headstock are kind of stressed out
