I once heard someone say that Siouxsie and the Banshees was a much better post-punk band than Joy Division. Lmao. Not even close. I've been listening to them lately and they don't have a single memorable song and all of their songs sound the same.
Joy Division is the Bach of the genre. No other post-punk band comes close.

You're a retard who obviously hasn't listened to them then.

They had better musicians on every spot. The only true contest with the Banshees is Killing Joke.

isn't Siouxsie more of a goth band? aren't you comparing apples to oranges?
>they don't have a single memorable song
off the top of my head
>Spellbound
>Israel
>Into the Light
>Arabian Knights
>Happy House
>Dear Prudence (not really their song though)
my personal favorites are their cover of Helter Skelter, Halloween and Monitor

Joy Division is the godfather band of goth - every goth and alt dj plays JD alongside Siouxsie, and everyone is happy.

I have no idea what OP is talking about because they have different sounds within the genre limits

Siouxsie always eschewed the goth label herself.

Siouxsie predates them and the band members admitted The Scream was the biggest influence on Unknown Pleasures

Siouxsie and the Banshees are better than Joy Division. Tinderbox is one of the greatest albums of all time.

Those few early Cocteau Twins records for me are the peak of goth. Wire, Young Marble Giants, PiL, Television Personalities, etc. are all more interesting than the one-note Joy Division, which I still love. Siouxsie has plenty of memorable songs.

Another terrible zoomer take.

Siouxsie were more innovative than JD and came before them and influenced JD's early sound (the big tom beats, no cymbals, angular guitars)

But Siouxsie was only great until McGeoch left, then they lost the rock sound and turned some macabre pop thing.
I guess you can't trust a woman to lead a band, the guitar guy was their rock

Joy Division are boring fucking dogshit. The Banshees aren't amazing, but they're still better. Most post-punk bands are better than JD. They're a very low benchmark.

Chameleons outclasses them easily.

Juju mogs every album from the post-punk and goth genres. There was never any contest.
As a band, Siouxsie could be argued to be better than JD in several respects:
Variety
Quantity of material
Higher peaks (Juju)
Etc. As a singles band, though, JD might be better, because Siouxsie never had a song as good as Disorder. A good comparison to Siouxsie would be The Cure; I think they're pretty much on the same level as The Banshees, maybe even a little bit better.

Killing Joke were the best Post Punk band.
All mentioned itt are great. But best? The Joke.

They were a very boundary pushing band, they went into uncharted territory and defined post-punk with every release they put out. That being said, their material is harder to digest than Joy Division's. Joy Division are simple to understand if you don't listen to post-punk. Are Joy Division better? In a way, yes. Their ability to capsulate everything about post-punk and put it all in one record which doesn't sound like anything before it and which nothing has ever come close to since is a feat not many can pull off.

New Order is better

Iggy Pop's The Idiot mogs both Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures and Siouxsie's The Scream, and should be seen as the first post-punk album that lays down the dark/industrial sound
