Usually people seem to believe his raspyness is fake, I don't buy that at all, I think he probably put on back in the 70s when he didn't naturally have an old man's voice but his voice very clearly started sounding that way after a while, likely from constantly singing in that 'wrong' way in concert for years.
For example I don't hear much forced or non legit in this one, listen to how he sounds when he's talking at the start
