I have said this many times before, but I will say it again: we should have a /singing general/ but we never had anything like except when I did it a few times long time ago. Playing guitar and bass is cool, but it's objectively useless if you can't sing.

Not an underage, but you have to face the facts, grandpa. It's much funnier when you can sing the fucking song you are playing in the guitar.

Singing is gay. No one is interested in hearing about your anger/sadness/lonliness/[insert selfish emotion]

I like singing. I dated a woman for a bit who was a vocal coach as a side gig and she taught me a lot about how to use the different parts of your body to vocalize properly. I live in an apartment so the only time I can sing really loud is when I'm alone in the car which I do frequently. It's quite relaxing actually.

OP has struck a nerve with this thread it seems.

The fact is most of /mu/ are too terrified to sing tbqh. It's a difficult thing to do because you can objectively become more technically good on an instrument with practice but with singing you're stuck with your own vocal sound. If your voice sounds kind of lame you can become better technically but you're still stuck with 'your voice'.
To work around that ends up teaching you a lot about music and songwriting, you start to learn how songs are written and arranged for the vocals, and a great song can usually be sung by a lot singers who aren't that good and it will still sound like a good song.

Lou Reed is a good example of someone with below average vocal ability who managed to make it work for him too. A lot of people who sounded like that would just give up these days.
