Practicing d# bass songs today. If you have any suggestions I'll take them. Got 97% of this song down. The 2nd bar of the 3rd chorus has this weird descending sound i cant figure out how to play. Did some Alice in chains, the killers and a duster song yesterday. Still working on guitar scales, my goal is to learn 1 song I like on guitar by the end of July. Still cant get the ringing to stop when doing songs. Im not using a lot of force but I am strong since I work out, so there's force behind it even when I try to hold back. Okay blog over I'm going to meet an insurance adjuster and hope I get to keep my car! Happy Saturday fellas. Make sure you play and practice today

Oh I know it personally.
OTOH I have two drummer friends who picked up guitar late and were pretty good within a year. They're both metal guys though, so they played to their strengths with guitars too. I'm not a big metal guy myself, but it was impressive how fast and precise their strumming got compared to a lot of sketchy players out there who played longer.

As you learn and get better at alternate picking it will come more naturally. You'll begin lifting your palm off the bridge for open strings and popping it back down within the rhythm of the song. Approaching guitar from a percussive perspective is always a good place to be when you're starting out.

August Rush and thumping the soundboard really unlocked a universe of sounds the guitar didn't have access to. It went from accompaniment to full band with a few simple techniques.

Yamaha owns Line 6 and has had way more success with their solid state modelers over the years than boss. Spark, to me, is a gimmick. The Katana is very highly regarded, but after spending a year with both the gen 2 and gen 3 I never really liked it that much. I do, however like line 6 and yamaha products, always have. I think they actually sound good. I think most of the Katana hype is either shilling or just people who are only interested in playing metal, because the clean and crunch tones from a Katana sound like shit. I'm not saying that if it's your first amp and you're learning guitar that it won't work, but I don't and never have thought that they actually sound good.

Someone said once around here I think that Katanas aren't modelers. I'm not sure if it's true. Like it's just clever SS circuitry for the amp voices. While the effects are digital.

IIRC katanas have some analog circuits doing most of the heavy lifting for the main voicing stages. There's also some additional mosfet/modeling shit to get push tones like you would on a tube amp. I think rhett had a video talking about it.

I don't know anything about amp construction but the line 6 spiders / pods were digital modelers before the term "modeler" was in common use. And they sounded great. You could dial in a nice tone from even the shittiest spider built in 2001. I don't like the tones that I get from Katana's.

I'll add 5w can get surprisingly loud especially with amps like Fenders built for lot of clean headroom. You have to always dime them to get any overdrive.

I obviously wouldn't go back, but spiders basically had the POD internals in them and those were used for recording and live gigs all throughout the early 2000s. I had a 100w spider I think and I had bandmates with Soldanos, Marshalls, and 5150s complimenting me on my tone. It was definitely a lot better than people made it out to be.

Ok well I like the ability to play with headphones and get tones that are on par with 100w amplifiers and not having to run a pedal board or multiple mics to record. There are many high level producers that take the direct input from studio guitarists recording with high end tube amps, scrap the entire thing and throw the DI into amp sims to master. They just sound better and I’m sorry you can’t understand that.

You're on the wrong side of history. We now have the ability to model 95% of the capability of vintage amplifiers and pedals dimed in our bedrooms with headphones on. It's only going to get better. Soon we will be able to model every pickup that has ever existed. And your vintage gear will become paperweights lusted after by collectors, not musicians. There's nothing wrong with collecting vintage stuff, but in the next decade there will be no reason to gig, record, or practice with them. I laugh at people like you, because you're the same type of retard that said that CD's wouldn't replace records, DVD's wouldn't replace VHS tapes, Hard drives wouldn't replace physical media, and hard drives wouldn't be replaced by streaming. Technology is ever advancing and you either get on board or you're going to get left behind. Digital modeling is getting so good that it will sound better than the most expensive boutique tube amplifier that has ever existed in the next 5 years. And you just have to deal with that. The only thing that is going to stick around is FRFR cabinets because there's something about having a wall of sound on stage, but other than that you can kiss your 70 year old technology goodbye.

Yeah I've been playing for ~30 years and I hear this a lot, and there is an argument for individualistic fingering styles affecting timbre, but this argument is objectively false. Tone is created by your amp, effects and pickups.
What people mean to say is that all of the "tone" in the world won't make you sound good, but the way its commonly postulated confused the hell out of the average beginner.

There are infinitely more options to how you pick a string, mute the strings, play chords, fret strings etc. If you listen to Sweet Home Alabama for example and hear how heavily he uses staccato, left and right hand muting, dynamic picking etc. Not many people in the world can copy his style or tone even if they had the exact guitar and amp he recorded it with. Tone isn't about what amps, effects, guitars you use it's your reflection of your playing that stands out in the music. You could hand billy corgan EVH's rig and he would sound nothing like him. Streaming does suck when you're trying to do something else, like work. Get bombarded with adds, counterstrike the ads, or pay the toll.

Yes, where you pick affects tone as you move up and down the length of the string and different distances from the pickup, and yes how you pick affects your attack. But that's not what you said, you're revising yourself now. You mentioned a bunch of technique and tried to equate it to tone.
Look, this is semantic and stupid. The end result is that we both agree that all of the equipment in the world doesn't actually make you sound good.
An audio engineer with the best ear and most expensive equipment can craft the best tone imaginable and if he can't pick up an instrument and play with it, none of it matters a drip.
I was only taking umbridge with the "tone is in your fingers" phrase I've been hearing for literal decades because it's objectively false and makes no sense to a beginner. It's just something people say, but words matter.

There will come a point in which streaming is the only option because those plants are so much more powerful than anything you could fit inside your home. If you look at it in a small scale, you couldn't host a 100 player PVP match of battlefield from your home computer even if you have 5 gig symmetrical fiber optic. There will become a point where streaming is more powerful than hosting locally and it's coming soon.

Depends, are you equating technique and tone again? I think you are. Because I can dime a superlead and undervolt it with a Variac and play a Super DIstortion through it, add some effects and get Eddies EXACT brown sound TONE in the guitar signal.
Doesn't mean I'm going to sound like Eddie when I start playing, but like I'm trying to point out, that's different.

Tone is in the fucking fingers retard that's why tens of thousands of musicians have played acoustic instruments since the beginning of time and some stand out over others. This isn't even an argument. What you consider "tone" is amps, settings, effects, etc. You don't consider what one guitarist sounds like from the next guitarist with the same acoustic guitar in their hands.

The actual DEFINITION of tone is:
tone
/tōn/
noun
1.
a musical or vocal sound with reference to its pitch, quality, and strength.
"the piano tone appears monochrome or lacking in warmth"

Which has nothing to do with amplifiers or effects pedals or vintage guitars or whatever the fuck you think it does you absolutely retarded piece of shit.

I see similar scaling issues with blockchain. Piling mountains of encryption on top of itself while basically centralizing and eliminating the anonymity of cash transaction. Bottlenecking every on and off ramp. It's antithetical to the original premise.

I disagree with Brad, the old physical gear is relatively steady or appreciates despite a saturation of new products. It's new products and services that are becoming bloated with feature creep and low value.

Les paul special is by far the better guitar, and p90's are by far superior to jazzmaster pickups, even seymour duncan. Otherwise, you could find a nice American tele or revstar with P90's for less. But between the two, hands down the les paul.

The only place I could see nitro being beneficial is on the neck, but you could easily just sand the neck or buy something with an unfinished neck. Only retarded boomer niggers like Tom Murphy will try to convince you that a checked finish has any impact on the tone of the guitar. Like ok. Apparently tonewoods don't exist, but tone lacquer is worth paying 10,000 extra for? kek.

I’ve bought and sold plenty of both, nothing wrong with growing apart from something and selling it off to fund something else you’ll enjoy. If I had never sold any firearms I’d be in the triple digits by now, currently at around three dozen. Guitars currently at nine electrics, if I hadn’t sold any ever I’d be at like 15. With both I’ve sold them down to like three and then got back up again. Nothing wrong with selling to fund something else, that’s basically an elaborate trade.

because musicians(and I say this with a grain of salt considering some people here just consoom) and their tastes are always changing, whether it be their favorite genres or artists or their instrument of choice, or even something as small as picks or the strings they use are always changing
an AR is always gonna feel like an AR, a 1911 is always gonna feel like a 1911, a Glock is always gonna feel like a Glock, and there isn't a whole lot you need to do to make bang and send lead down range. There's so much music out there, so many instruments and variations thereof that have different feel and sound that you can't reasonably get a feel for all of it within this lifetime.

Guitars have a bit of a personal lifespan. A new one can inspire you to play or write new things, and conversely, over time, they can kind of lose their spark.

Again not him but JMs just sound like a Strat on steroids to me. I had one for a number of years and it didn’t do anything my Strats already did other than having a better vibrato and the rhythm circuit. Jags just have their own sound. They’re very bright and jangly. Short scale is just super comfy and nice feeling too. I’d like a Jag eventually but hotter single coils with 1 meg pots aren’t my favorite, I like the 250k pots of Strats/Teles/Mustangs

I've been on /fit/ since 2011, you've only been sucking cocks for 3 years. Be quiet when real pickers are poasting.

Alright I gotta say it
I want to personally thank who ever invented putting meat beans cheese and bell peppers inside of a tortilla and grilling it. I am going to go play my Mexican Strat in honor of that legendary Latino

Notes in the key of D#:
D#-E#-F##-G#-A#-B#-C##
Notes in the key of Eb:
Eb-F-G-Ab-Bb-C-D

Can you see why no one who knows what they're talking about uses D# as a key?

NTA but TIL, cool! I always wondered why there was two ways to write the same note but never bothered looking into it.

Anyone collect guitars here?

whats the most valuable item in your collection?

Also another question. Are tube amps dying/becoming more sought after?

a good rule of thumb is half a gauge per semitone dropped

9 -> E standard
9.5 -> D#
10 -> D
10.5 -> C#

If you have not checked out string source strings, do yourself a favor and order some.

If I had to have just one 7 string that I'll retune i'd go with picrel, knowing A# std will be a bit too tight and G# a bit to loose
