Practicing d# bass songs today. If you have any suggestions I'll take them. Got 97% of this song down. The 2nd bar of the 3rd chorus has this weird descending sound i cant figure out how to play. Did some Alice in chains, the killers and a duster song yesterday. Still working on guitar scales, my goal is to learn 1 song I like on guitar by the end of July. Still cant get the ringing to stop when doing songs. Im not using a lot of force but I am strong since I work out, so there's force behind it even when I try to hold back. Okay blog over I'm going to meet an insurance adjuster and hope I get to keep my car! Happy Saturday fellas. Make sure you play and practice today

OTOH I have two drummer friends who picked up guitar late and were pretty good within a year. They're both metal guys though, so they played to their strengths with guitars too. The Katana is very highly regarded, but after spending a year with both the gen 2 and gen 3 I never really liked it that much. I do, however like line 6 and yamaha products, always have. I think they actually sound good. I think most of the Katana hype is either shilling or just people who are only interested in playing metal, because the clean and crunch tones from a Katana sound like shit. >>126855845>>126855850You're on the wrong side of history. We now have the ability to model 95% of the capability of vintage amplifiers and pedals dimed in our bedrooms with headphones on. It's only going to get better. Soon we will be able to model every pickup that has ever existed. And your vintage gear will become paperweights lusted after by collectors, not musicians. There's nothing wrong with collecting vintage stuff, but in the next decade there will be no reason to gig, record, or practice with them. I laugh at people like you, because you're the same type of retard that said that CD's wouldn't replace records, DVD's wouldn't replace VHS tapes, Hard drives wouldn't replace physical media, and hard drives wouldn't be replaced by streaming. Technology is ever advancing and you either get on board or you're going to get left behind. Digital modeling is getting so good that it will sound better than the most expensive boutique tube amplifier that has ever existed in the next 5 years. And you just have to deal with that. The only thing that is going to stick around is FRFR cabinets because there's something about having a wall of sound on stage, but other than that you can kiss your 70 year old technology goodbye.

>>126856196Also
Nobody ever talks about a drummers tone being connected to their amplification or effects. Guitar is the only instrument where retards chase "tone" as if it's something you can pay for by having the right amplifier or effects pedal.
>>126856215>Tone isn't in the amplification or effects it's in your ability to play the instrument.Yeah I've been playing for ~30 years and I hear this a lot, and there is an argument for individualistic fingering styles affecting timbre, but this argument is objectively false. Tone is created by your amp, effects and pickups.
What people mean to say is that all of the "tone" in the world won't make you sound good, but the way its commonly postulated confused the hell out of the average beginner.
Fun fact: amp modelers are a great tool, but they aren't amps. They don't amplify your guitar. Your gay macbook is not louder than a drummer!
I have 3 tube amps and hella pedals, but I also use amp modelers for recording and playing with headphones.
what's there to be mad about?
>>126856252I think the problem is that most guitarists want to sound like other guitarists. I play music because I want to express what I hear in my own head
>well dick mcgrubers 1971 1/2 performance at linglongs amphitheater bar and grill sounded like it does because the cigar smoke was compressing the sound waves in the air and it was a particularly cold june that year. his 1963 Gibson that was built in the back of a shipping truck as they were moving from michigan to nashville had .016% overwound pickups and his hand wired dumbledore amp had extra solder on the pots because the mexican lady had no hands and made it with her feet. all im going to do is just transpose all his solos anyway so I need to sound like him
>>126856264You're a fucking retard. There are infinitely more options to how you pick a string, mute the strings, play chords, fret strings etc. If you listen to Sweet Home Alabama for example and hear how heavily he uses staccato, left and right hand muting, dynamic picking etc. Not many people in the world can copy his style or tone even if they had the exact guitar and amp he recorded it with. Tone isn't about what amps, effects, guitars you use it's your reflection of your playing that stands out in the music. You could hand billy corgan EVH's rig and he would sound nothing like him. I don't even like the word tone because it fucking means nothing, and tone chasers are the most retarded inbred retards on earth.
>>126856215Streaming is the current model so companies can maintain some kind of dying stranglehold on getting any type of compensation for media. It takes workarounds to rip the media you want to hold onto from most popular websites.
Streaming does suck when you're trying to do something else, like work. Get bombarded with adds, counterstrike the ads, or pay the toll.
I can see a future where chromebooks and iphones are entirely operated from the cloud.

any point to removing old strings without cutting?
from what I read, they get fucked up by being removed either way, so there'd be little point in saving them for re-use down the line
>>126856329And the best way to sound like another guitarist is to dive deep into their quirks and techniques not their gear. The gear is the last thing you need to think about if you want to sound like another guitarist.
>>126856375where and how you pick effects the tone on an acoustic or electric 100 percent dipshit. you probably only play 1 finger chords drop d wigger metal behind a wall of distortion and compression but if you actually could play you'd know this was true
>>126856394bros won’t even learn intervals. this is out of depth for most guitarists lol
>>126856376You /can/ reuse them. If you don't have another set of strings as backup just wrap them up and keep them in case one of your new strings snap
>>126856376you can boil them and use them again. just be careful filling up your basin in the river because there are piranha in the amazon
>>126856376they get work hardened at the contact points of the saddle and the tuner. the unwound strings would be very unlikely to survive being retuned again. guitar strings are cheap and lose their highs after like 4 months so no point in keeping them. you can keep bass strings though they will last for years and multiple removals; they can be cleaned in simmering water
>>126856410>where and how you pick effects the tone on an acoustic or electric 100 percent dipshit.Yes, where you pick affects tone as you move up and down the length of the string and different distances from the pickup, and yes how you pick affects your attack. But that's not what you said, you're revising yourself now. You mentioned a bunch of technique and tried to equate it to tone.
Look, this is semantic and stupid. The end result is that we both agree that all of the equipment in the world doesn't actually make you sound good.
An audio engineer with the best ear and most expensive equipment can craft the best tone imaginable and if he can't pick up an instrument and play with it, none of it matters a drip.
I was only taking umbridge with the "tone is in your fingers" phrase I've been hearing for literal decades because it's objectively false and makes no sense to a beginner. It's just something people say, but words matter.
>>126856355It's not just that. AI requires so much energy that they're going to have the worlds biggest nuclear energy plants feeding them. There will come a point in which streaming is the only option because those plants are so much more powerful than anything you could fit inside your home. If you look at it in a small scale, you couldn't host a 100 player PVP match of battlefield from your home computer even if you have 5 gig symmetrical fiber optic. There will become a point where streaming is more powerful than hosting locally and it's coming soon.

truly, only a gibson is good enough
why is 4chan gun culture "never sell" but 4chan guitar culture is "yeah I owned one of those once, it was my favorite guitar in the whole world but I got bored of it so I sold it 5 years back"
>>126859200Headstock is too durable to be a real Gibson. Play Authentic.
>>126859227I’ve bought and sold plenty of both, nothing wrong with growing apart from something and selling it off to fund something else you’ll enjoy. If I had never sold any firearms I’d be in the triple digits by now, currently at around three dozen. Guitars currently at nine electrics, if I hadn’t sold any ever I’d be at like 15. With both I’ve sold them down to like three and then got back up again. Nothing wrong with selling to fund something else, that’s basically an elaborate trade.
>>126859227because musicians(and I say this with a grain of salt considering some people here just consoom) and their tastes are always changing, whether it be their favorite genres or artists or their instrument of choice, or even something as small as picks or the strings they use are always changing
an AR is always gonna feel like an AR, a 1911 is always gonna feel like a 1911, a Glock is always gonna feel like a Glock, and there isn't a whole lot you need to do to make bang and send lead down range. There's so much music out there, so many instruments and variations thereof that have different feel and sound that you can't reasonably get a feel for all of it within this lifetime.
