>>126884382>bro play an adult genre not metalThat kind of rhetoric always circles back to sounding immature without fail. This is literally what people do when Call of Duty is brought up in conversation.
>>126884354ignore the hater who doesn't know what he's talking about. the spider exercise develops more than just dexterity, but alternate picking and intonation as well. its valuable as hell, but it's also very challenging.
the biggest issue for most people is getting their pinky up and intonating properly with it. it can be super challenging to reach up with that finger while holding your other fingers in place, so for awhile play it backwards. lead with your pinky, its much easier because you dont have to hold your fingers down, until you develop strength. then, when you do go back to the normal direction, don't fret the note as quickly as possible to play as fast as possible -- that actually covers up strength issues. play it slowly and force yourself to fret the notes for a long period of time. this exercise is about strength, speed will come naturally.
good luck and have fun.
Hey hey hey, Squier Angel reporting in
my Squier strat is rockin' and rollin
that's all
>>126884400you're trying to play a genre where you cannot sound good at any tempo, you have to play ridiculously fast. Because of this the skill ceiling is higher and you must work even harder to achieve what other musicians achieve.
literally you're going to focus so much on playing things note for note you wont be able to improvise very well and you'll just be repeating licks and patterns. as for that spider exercise you're spending months on getting right?
when the fuck are you going to use it in a song? almost never. there are better things to focus your time on man
>>126884413you're wasting your time on dumb shit. if you really want to practice exercises practice right hand exercises and rhythm

>>126888818I'm just judging from what I've seen in demos
What I am doing wrong? I've set up everything to record guitars on FL studio. But I can't hear anything, the weird thing is that FL studio is clearly picking up audio when I strum my guitar. How do I solve this?
>>126888862>that's why I posted the ratsorry i didn't follow your thread back, that was my bad
the rat will get you halfway there. a good octave fuzz will do the rest, anon was almost on point. check out the mastotron, it's low octave fuzz. dont be afraid to stack them, just mind the gain.
>>126888866if you're seeing the signal in the daw then you probably just need to set the track to Monitoring so you can hear it. thats what i'd do in Reaper anyway.
>>126888453Use an insulated mic grill. Touch the strings to the mic. Bring an outlet tester. Run everything on the same circuit. Don't play in a thunderstorm. Take out the death cap in an amp that does fuck all anyway.
Simple as
>>126888786I'm not talking about the difference between the gauges, but the equivalent of nylon tension to a steel string.
>>126888998nylon strings has far less tension than steel strings. so they are easier to play and pluck. so much so that classical guitars have their own bracing pattern and will explode if you string them with steel strings
>>126888345>90% of his content now is just trying to flip hotel breakers in foreign countrieskinda based, traveling around the world and writing it off on your taxes
>>126889014Its interesting that all the gypsy jazz players use super light strings, like 10-45 and 11-46 max
Yet all "normal" acoustics come with 12s or 13s
>>126888903I already have a marshall type distortion pedal, it's good but it doesn't sound big and/or crunchy, so yeah I'm looking for something to stack on it, ideally something that adds that big open sound to it that allows you to slide fifths on the bottom string all across the fretboard without losing sustain
https://voca.ro/13E5JyQLH277
>>126889177strumming is a lot more violent on the strings than picking, they can get some bad buzzing if the string is too light. you get better overtones going heavier strings which is probably why dreadnoughts come with 12s but they're not very friendly for fingerpicking. silk and steels are a good intermediate between nylons and steel strings both in tone and tension but i personally don't like the way they sound
just finished an hour jamming the fuck out with metal playing in the background lads
im sweaty now
Nevermind the super fuzz sounds amazing here, this is exactly the sound I'm looking for

Love him or hate him, Bowie is proof you don't need to be an elite guitar player to make incredible music. His songs, especially Sweet Thing, are very easy to play on Guitar but they work so well with the other instruments and the vocals that the music comes out incredible.
>>126889782complex guitar parts are uninteresting. it's like working out your calves: only other guys notice or care. rhythm is 80% of the equation which is why it's so sad that people in this thread obviously aren't practicing with a metronome
>>126889808>only other guys notice or careVery true.
If someone like Eddie Van Halen was born today he wouldn't even be that well known.
>>126889832perhaps but i was thinking someone more like buckethead compared to someone like angus young
I know where the notes on the fretboard are. When I want to play "in key", I just look up which notes are in that key and start playing. It takes some time to visualize it, but it usually works. Is this how everyone else does it?
I don't like learning "shapes", at least not consciously. I assumed that knowing the notes is the better solution. The problem I ran into now is being unable to memorize every scale in the world. I have a few that I know and mostly stick to: e minor, c major, c minor, d minor.
>>126889863Who is buckethead?
>>126889808Should I buy a metronome or just use one online?
>>126889883no i learned my major and minor scales and base everything around that including chord changes. intervalic distances typically have the same feeling compared to the tonic regardless of key so if i want to express certain feelings i use them are target notes. it also helps to avoid playing certain notes when comping someone else for a solo or giving them space to work as i can avoid notes that would too strictly imply a chord or harmony. i never bothered learning modes. im sure theres a hundred ways to do it and they all work.
>>126889892buckethead writes some pretty insane guitar parts and i like quite a lot of them but he's like advanced jazz where only people already in his circle "get it". you can use any old metronome although i highly recommend the free groove trainer from scott's bass lessons because it has extra features like drone and the click completely dropping out for advanced training.
>>126889892>Who is buckethead? The ghost of drunken regrets.
>>126889892>Who is buckethead?Precisely.
where is the sound like gojira jhs episode

>>126889479Good job fren keep on truckin
>>126889921>avoid playing certain notes when comping someone else for a solo or giving them space to work as i can avoid notes that would too strictly imply a chord or harmonyHow would that work? How can you know beforehand what note someone is going to play so you can avoid playing a certain one yourself?
>>126890261root 5th and octave don't step on anything. you can make a lot of good music with just those three notes. depending on how open it is you can also add in your maj/minor third. it's not really about avoiding playing the same notes as them but providing a very blank harmony so they can do whatever. if i start playing a sus chord their 4th notes won't sound as impactful. sometimes you (and the drums) can drop out completely its really just whatever but i guess the point is i wouldn't understand how or why that works if i didn't know my intervals

Just started playing guitar, what's the best course/exercises that I need to become decent?
I have no intention of shredding or playing metal if that helps
>>126890384if i could do it all over i would jump completely into whatever i wanted to learn immediately and learn completely by ear
>bluegrass?flatpicking and walking chord transitions
>rock?power chords and minor pentatonic blues solos
etc
>>126889526do note that he's using the "secret setting" here where he has the swtich between the boost setting and the fuzz 2 to get a boosted fuzz.

lol holy samefag meltdown
Reminder that nobody actually likes Craig and heโs one of the most constant samefags in this general thatโs already rife with samefaggotry
>>126890775but let's be real, does anyone actually like anyone here?
like most of the site, most of the posters are newfags who interpreted the overly vitriolic responses to their newfaggotry as the actual site culture and normal tone of conversation.
some people just want to chill out and have a fun time.
90% of newfags are incapable of having fun without some sadistic element or autistic competitive debates.
>>126890812I've been on and off posting here for years. it's definitely in a better place than it was a year or two ago
>>126890812I like the black blues anon and mountain has his moments. All the other trolls here do legitimately suck though
So you guys get about 300 posts or more per day. Is this really a dead general? It's not so bad.
>>126890845>300Half of those are craig complimenting himself so yes it is that bad
>>126890862you guys have no idea. I don't pretend to be people on here anymore than i "pretend" to play guitar. There's a fine line between the reality we live in and the one they are medicating us for so don't keep your eyes closed for too long.
>>126889892Google has over built-in
The soundcorset app is pretty good
If you buy hardware, I recommend going straight up for a cheap elektron box like model:samples

>>126890840mountain and craig are the same person imo
or at least the same archetype
>>126890961Mountain is way too clever and smart, and he can play a little bit. Craig canโt play AT ALL. Itโs just random plinking around. And he doesnโt have the charisma and humor that mountain has. Craig can barely function as a person
>>126890977ok mountain
only mountain would glaze himself this much
What's a cheap steel string that's decent? Some Ibanez?

>>126891464nope ur wrong and dumb and your breath stink
>>126891433I don't know what his material looks like or your skill level but i guess when you aren't being challenged or learning anything anymore? i always roll through beginner content again when i learn a new picking/strumming etc technique. or take a song you already know and try playing at a different tempo
