Why is Sabotage so underrated in comparison to their classic era.
It's my favourite

I think it's noticeable inferior to the previous albums but it's still good and has some very unique songs. The following albums is where they shat the bed.

>Hole in the Sky
great opener. 7/10
>Don't Start
not worth rating but it's existence is important
>Symptom of the Universe
killer first half, okay second half but i get why it's there. 7/10
>Megalomania
great but should have been 2 minutes shorter. 7/10
>Thrill of it All
rocks. 6/10
>Supertzar
nice interlude. 6/10
>Am I Going Insane
garbage. 0/10
>The Writ
it's okay, a bit too long and tired sounding. 6/10

overall 6/10 album

>Hole in the Sky
Heavy rocking song with based lyrics and great riffs. 10/10
>Don't Start
not worth rating but it's existence is important
>Symptom of the Universe
proto thrash riffs and some of the the best performance bill ward ever did, tasty as fuck fills and then the second half is so funky and passionate. one of the greatest love songs ever written
10/10
>Megalomania
great use of build ups with the solo bass and the tony iommi deturning his guitar or whatever he does during the second part is brilliant and sounds like a helicopter flyign over the riff. Based lyrics about schiziophrenia and isolation. 10/10
>Thrill of it All
awesome riffs and some of geezers best lyrics ever.
10/10
>Supertzar
gorgeous and has tony really flexing his arrangement skills.
10/10
>Am I Going Insane
would have been better with the iommi playing the synth riff.
7.5/10
>The Writ
sabbaths angriest song, I love geezers lyrics, his hatred is so palpable and the riffs are mighty, one of sabbaths best and an important song on their catalog and one of their only songs that is directly about their experience in the exploitative 70s music industry.
10/10

overall 10/10 album

I'm old but I can tell you with certainty that it was not at all underrated among my millennial friends when we were playing this band at ear splitting volume. Basically no album they released between 1970 and 1975 was considered necessarily weaker or stronger, each had their context and value

Symptom Of The Universe is a banger
So is Hole In The Sky
the segues between the songs is what sort of kills the momentum on this album... wtf were they thinking?

>We all hated going into the studio and dealing with all those lawyers, but it hit Ozzy hardest. That’s why the song “The Writ,” which Ozzy wrote the lyrics for, is dripping with resentment. He put it better than I could have done: “You bought and sold me with your lying words... All of the promises that never came true, you’re gonna get what is coming to you...”

Au contraire. they build the drama so the riffs hit harder.

I read that book too. it's not true and he's directly contradicted himself on that before. There are a bunch of contradictions in iommis book too. Often times they have completely different stories on events for the same situation.

I'll binge listen every Black Sabbath album over the next 48h, along with every Muse, the Cure, Stratovarius, and L'arc en ciel, to see if they rank higher on my favorite artists. Since other people rankings are not always trustable, I think evey fan should do as much.

It would've been a good song for them to cover.

A bunch of bands have the intros to songs as separate tracks for some reason.
Some versions of blacksabbath albums did that as well.
