You don't need theory to rock and roll!

>>126905017what i'm saying is that you can do much more with finger technique, even if picks have their use it's not even close.
why picks are popular is a cultural thing, and for electric guitar beginners its the easy route
>>126905119So if you want to get down to brass tacks, you can use a pick while using your fingers as well, its called chicken picking.
Its not the easy route, fingers are a lot easier.
Picks are popular because the genres demand it, the dynamics of a pick is far greater than fingers, the highs are higher and the lows are lower. Even finger nails don't quite have the snap of a heavy pick.
https://voca.ro/1pid21duzXOR
What you should do is learn to use everything well, picks, classical style finger picking, chicken picking, bass picking. But since this is 4chan we have to pick a side and fight like monkeys

Think of it like spider climbs but with your voice. I enjoy a chai latte after. I drive my moped to the studio and take a line of coke to take the edge off. Start doing actual spider climbs on the acoustic. Put amp on standby to warm up the tubes. Read some Jim Morrison poems to get in the right mindset.

>>126912784it usually doesn't. they probably came unseated after leaving the factory. it can happen with severe climate changes like going to a customers hovel or sitting in a shitty guitar center with no climate control. most new builds won't use glue on the frets because the fret slots and fingerboard are pristine and don't really need it but maybe this one should have got some. judging by all the shit around the bridge it looked like something went wrong with the bridge glue up on this guitar from the factory or maybe it got heat checked in transport. this shit should not have left the factory in that state. american manufacturers actually have people play and test the instrument for a few minutes before sending to packing so surely anyone with two brain cells would've caught this. not excusing gibson because this shouldn't have happened but i've seen new martins that were literally unplayable because the neck had too much back bow and they don't put two way rods in their guitars. gibson claims to plek their guitars and i'm sure they do a quick job of it but ive never had fret level issues on any of their instruments personally. my fender americans will have a slightly high fret or two sometimes

>>126913125i am thinking of doing a keith richards micawber kinda guitar, hence the classic vibe being the starting point. i would put a humbucker in the neck (seymour duncan seth lover) change the bridge to a broadcaster style, change the bridge to a modern 6 saddle one made of brss and fuck around with it to make it my dedicated open g guitar because probably 50+% of all my playing is open g
i'll look at standards, they might be good. i mostly just want the base color to be close to an old blonde one

there are retards here who drop their guitars so much they are mad at gibson.
if you drop a guitar or knock it over regardless of brand you deserve to have it break.
Gibsons are for people who take care of their instruments.

american "quality"
>didnt practice guitar at all while away volunteering
>did play bass and started playing pick only
>picking on bass slowly getting better also seeing benefits for certain songs
>forgot to order extra large pedalboard for guitar
Setting up to practice a bit now. Its not that I didnt have my guitar, I just didnt feel like playing it. Plus I was out in the woods and didnt want it to get covered in sweat. I was okay with my bass enduring the heat. One of the girls I was volunteering with has a pretty nice voice. Next time I see her we are gonna try to write.

Im starting to like using a pick on bass a lot
>>126914763Pick never feels right for me on bass
>>126914802At first I thought so too but after forcing myself to keep trying eventually something clicked and I've been looking for my pick when I start to play instead of fingering. Muting with a pick in hand is really tedious and annoying though.
>>126914850i like to rake and string bounce so i never bothered to learn pick
pick adds a brightness, it hurts my fingies to finger pluck a bass string at max, picking it is np tho
now check out this farty bass tone i achieved using only a fuzz pedal
https://voca.ro/16xEEXJyRsVy
>>126914919same. picking in general is brighter but it depends on the attack, if you have a good bass you can get a lot of tonal differences just by altering attack, which takes some of the sting out of losing that smooth finger sound.
Tonal opportunities with a single-pickup bass, a volume knob and a flatpick..it's more versatile than people think. Heres a couple of classic bass lines with increasing levels of attack and tonal diversity
