streaming is way more convenient and accessible. even when pirating. is it because you want to have something to listen to when the internet goes out during the collapse?

>internet connection might not always be available for one reason or another
A local collection is always there for you no matter what
>streaming services might not have what you want to listen to (especially niche releases)
Your local collection can include anything you can get your hands on
>streaming services might alter or remove a release at any moment
Your collection will always be there in the exact version you want, without censorship or rights bullshit

The ideal is to have a local collection for your favorite music and your backlog of music you specifically want to listen to, and use streaming services for music you don't have locally yet (for example when someone tells you to quickly check out an album or something) and for discovery.

This argument reduces down to you simply learning to play a fucking instrument. It's not a good argument.

Theft is free - the end. (I don't care about the moral argument.)

I refuse to care what you believe. The argument about connectivity made more sense 15 years ago. You're never starved for connectivity. If you are, the power is out. If the power is out, you're limited to battery, which will run out. Eventually you're left only with making your own music or not listening to anything. The rest of your arguments are theoretical - the fewer than 1% who can't find what they're looking for on any streaming service being worried about censorship and rights (zzzzz). Digital files on any computer connected to the internet can be accessed by anyone who wants to gain access, Tyler Durden. Maybe you should have just bought a physical collection. Ah but fuck, the power's out. Dang it!

You can buy a second hand ipod for £60, put rockbox on it and you’re sorted. There is so much music that isn’t on streaming you don’t even know. Also ipod has
>headphone jack
>really long battery life
>no lag
>can write lua scripts for it
>no distracting notifications or popups
Also it impresses normies for some reason

Remember when Neil Yong and Joni Mitchell threw a bitch fit about Joe Rogan on Spotify and pulled their music? Sure, they came crawling back, but it's shit like that. As a man once said:
>They can't take away from me.

Are those refurbished old school ipods worth it? If not, how do you guys with large collections play your music these days?

My ipod touch is shitting the bed and my Macbook doesn't have the storage for my collection so sadly I hardly listen to music at the moment.

You could always get a NAS and stream it to your Macbook through Apple Music.

Streaming can be fine depending on the bitrate and speakers. Digital collections are cringe autism in most cases.

Any files that you import into Apple Music get uploaded to the cloud so you can use it from anywhere. I do it for releases that are not available for streaming

No fucking shit. The number of people listening to it is also minuscule. There are endless mountain ranges of worthless crap on streaming services with fewer than 1000 streams, and the amount of stuff only a handful of people would ever listen to if not actively looking for it is less than that. Download it if you want, maybe you even should, but it makes no argument whatsoever against streaming.

Thanks I'll look into that. Already have everything on an external hard drive but Apple Music can't handle it for some reason. Maybe it's the size of the library? It takes forever if it's on shuffle and even just playing an album or playlist causes it to freeze a lot.

The cloud is just someone else's computer. I want the files I need stored locally. I have a NAS, so I'm my own streaming service
