Why does Joey Bonomassa constantly get shilled on my feed? I've literally never heard anything from him IRL or now anyone who is a fan.

My friend's dad is a huge blues fan and raves about him constantly. Obviously, he's a mediocre guitarist who was in a mediocre little cover band growing up. So that's probably the types. Too bad they never listen to good blues like Peter Green and Howlin' Wolf.

I haven't listened to his solo albums, but Black Country Communion is great.

Fucking fraud who says gear doesn't matter when he never plays a show without $1 million worth of gear. He also has no good or memorable songs at all.

Heard him live recently, had never heard of him before

Seemed like a very good guitarist but his audience is 60+yos, I'm not sure how much appeal there is for someone in their 20s-30s. It was enjoyable but not really my thing.

Like if you grew up in the generation where blues rock on an electric guitar was something new and experimental then he's probably great, but for younger generations I'm not sure he has much appeal

5 minute guitar solos over some standard blues rock is conceptually interesting but rock/metal moved on a lot since his era, idk

Joe is the most inorganic guitarist out there. For some reason he is pushed EVERYWHERE. fender gives him signature guitars, gibson gives him signature guitars, everyone is pushing him and he's easily the most boring boomerlicious guitarist out there. he's just SRV 2.0 and SRV was just Hendrix 2.0

Joe is so hilarious to me. I could write a book on this guy.
He's a raging hypocrite. Constantly saying "gear doesn't matter!" but exclusively plays 59 Les Pauls through vintage Tweed Twins and Dumbles. Literally plays through $1 million dollars worth of gear every single night, but wants everyone to know he doesn't believe gear matters
But besides that, he's just so boring. Name one (1) single Boomermassa song off the top of your head. You can't. No one can. He doesn't have one single hit, one single popular song. He hasn't written a single song or riff or solo that was any good. He's a guitarist's guitarist famous for being famous somehow
All he does is just play pentatonics but fast. SRV did that. SRV just did Hendrix but faster, and Joe just does the same thing 40 years too late
But the absolute most hilarious thing about him is how insecure and butthurt he is. A few years back someone made a comment on an Insta post of his telling him it was time to accept reality and shave his head, the hair wasn't coming back. Joe got so mad he deleted all his social media. He's extremely sensitive to any criticism of him and takes things personally. It's hilarious to see

I mean more like, if you describe rock with a focus on guitar solos to a normie they'll say it sounds cool

The difference being what he plays was probably cool in the 70s but it's not really exciting anymore (compare something like Hangar 18, which is all solos but actually interesting)

No.

His playing is totally flat and devoid of any expression, if this was the 70s he would also be laughed out of the building.
