This whole reunion gives me weird feelings because my mother used to compare me and my bro to Liam and Noel (we're late 90s kids). We had a pretty strained relationship for similar reasons though. Abusive household and I was the older one taking it on the nose but at that age, you're too young to contextualise it, so you take it out on each other without realising and resent one another in small ways.

We sort of made up as adults but then he killed himself. Just makes me sad i guess, like watching guys who followed a similar familial trajectory but I'll never get to hug it out.

An unstable home life as a child really fucks people up though. I'm like, entirely unsurprised by the kind of dynamics is conjures between Liam and Noel. But it is sad.

This is probably the best post I have seen on the topic.

We're just bullying the Brits when we say that Oasis were a one-hit band in America, they were more successful than that. But in our music discourse they fit in alongside the first wave of post-grunge bands, like Everclear, Bush, Live, Collective Soul, etc. Bands thatt were decent and successful but ultimately forgettable .

I'm a Brit and I think they're shit, alright for singing along to when you're 5 years old but other than that they're just cringe.

Only Americans can really appreciate Oasis as a band that makes music because we don't have any of the baggage about them being the biggest band in the universe. When bongs talk about Oasis they're ten levels deep status-signaling about their class and their views on society in general.

Also we can tell they want to be the Beatles because in America not everything sounds like the Beatles and we don't worship the Beatles. But it also doesn't bother us so badly because, again, we don't worship the Beatles.
