But yeah I guess he's mostly just famous in the UK. Just another shitty British pop act.

looking it up now...

Millennium: the string part is familiar so either i know the song or they sampled a song i know. his constant head-bobbing is very distracting, someone should have said something. all the self-aware mugging is a bit weird unless you're as famous as Bieber, but Bieber doesn't even do that. maybe it's a British thing that doesn't really translate here very well?

Feel: good-looking video shot in nice Black & White on a huge ritzy ranch in Alberta, Canada with Daryl Hannah -- so obviously he's got money.
song is OK, no head bobbing this time, but still ...the mugging.

idk what to think
he reminds me of Level 42 but without the great bass playing, or the Christians but without the great voice and the songs aren't quite as good

feel like I'd appreciate him more if I were British, the way Americans like Mariah Carrey and Brian McKnight or Latin countries like Shakira and Bad Bunny or whoever

He's got a handful of singles I listen to from time to time. Old Before I Die, Angels, She's the One, Let Me Entertain You, Kids and Feel are all really good.

I've even played Let Me Entertain You and Kids in coverbands when I was in my late teens and early 20s.

Robbie is washed and hasn't had any major hit in ages
they made a very weird choice to release the movie so many years after he fell to the level of "that guy from that boyband aunts were listening to in like 1975"

He was top tier from his first solo album up until Escapology. It was all downhill from there.
He peaked at Sing when you're winning.
Great live act too. His concerts were great.

having lived through the late 90s/early 2000s, i can sing every song he ever released purely based on the radio play he had, but if not for that i'm amazed anyone knows who he is. i don't get the sense his music has been passed down, though it's hard to tell. there's a paradox where the more you were part of an era, the less awareness you have for how future generations perceive it in terms of cultural relevance. i hear Avril Lavigne Complicated on the radio in 2025 and i think "how do they know what this is? do Gen Z know this song because it's been in a movie, or a commercial, or has the music stood the test of time, like Madonna and Queen in the 80s?"

we're definitely free to say the era of artists being able to become set in stone icons and stay relevant for decades has ended around the year 2000
nothing like this can ever happen again, no matter how big of a name you are in <current_moment> for your target audience, you're totally disposable

I see Robbie as being wedding disco-core now, like you might throw on Angels or something if you want everyone to have a big singalong that's also a bit soppy cause it's a wedding.
On an unrelated point he wrote this which fills me with visceral hatred for a reason that I cannot quite pinpoint myself.
