This is pretty damn good! It's like a midwest emo band started a jazz jam. The saxophone is an excellent addition that does a lot to make this stuff sound quite original, and vocals are honestly quite good and fits the music very well. It's a shame this sounded like it was recorded by a phone/tape recorder of the floor of the band practice space because the first track was unlike anything I've heard before and was a really interesting piece that both went way longer than expected and took some off-beat turns towards the end: That dark vibe that crept up on the song just before it finished was intriguing!
The second track isn't bad by any means but far more standard garage rock but the 808 drums help it stand out somewhat from its genre. The outro "bassline" was nice!
I can't deny I wanted to hear more of the Promise Ring-meets-John Coltrane thing that was happening in the first track though...
Girl is a fine enough rawk dittie, and the accordion(?) in the background did a nice job lifting it up, but needed to be a little higher in the mix. Tasteful harmonies, the bassline and additional guitars are killer among other things, but I still get the feeling it's a little on the generic side? Still, this could make an A+ filler track and very well be something that girls keel over themselves singing along to.
Ramble was very unpolished but there was clear signs of potential in it: Neat harmonics and the college emo band is back, trying to play Antony and the Johnsons-style music this time? It makes for a curious but stand-out listening experience. Thunder and Lightning follows somewhat in the same footsteps and sounds cool too. Finisher Time Again has some very pleasant harmonies and could very well be some kind of sleeper hit with a little polish? My personal opinion is it was a little "rambly" though...
Cool stuff! A lot of weirdness happening in there but most of it good! Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff and where you intend to take it.
