it was less about the beatles themselves and more what the beatles meant in the grander scope of music discussion. when /mu/ was really active, the legacy tentpoles of music discussion still existed somewhat, and they had all put shit like sgt. peppers and revolver at the top of every "best albums ever" list. talking about the beatles was less about talking about the beatles themselves and more an indicator that you hadn't bothered to dig deeper than the collectively agreed "best albums ever" lists from places like Rolling Stone or whatever else. the Scaruffi meme was the perfect representation of that. beatles discussion did happen but isolated and way less frequently than more obscure stuff or new releases. that's my read of it at least

Was this board always focused solely on old American music and k-pop?
It is kind of ironic that despite this being a 4chan music board, people here have incredible narrow interests and at times seem even hostile to anything outside of their bubble. Music threads on other boards are way more diverse than totality of threads here.

For example go to /g/ and ask what people listen to while programming. You will get like dozen times more different creators and genres than all /mu/ combined. And people will be actually open minded to the wide range of tastes and discuss the music they and other people like. On the other hand, your quotes sound exactly like kind of posts you read on /mu/. It's literally same takes, except swap the examples that are unpopular on /mu/ with the ones that are popular here. Making fun of people listening to anime OSTs while majority of your board is kpop is just so delusional, I find it hard to believe it's not a joke.

As far as I remember, /mu/ used to be a lot more elitist. We'd discuss the most obscure and unlistenable trash ever to pretend to be superior.

>>126923962
It didn't. Pop was largely ignored or mocked. The board was more about interesting music, even though I didn't like most of it. As far as coomer stuff, there was a lot less. There were other boards for that stuff.
