Tfw still thinkin of selling a few that are redundant or don’t get much play time anymore to fund another amp or another guitar that’ll get more love from me
>>126953791Any more than 2 and you're just playing with yourself at that point.
>>126953817I have an old Ibanez bass from when I was a teenager sitting in the corner of my music room, I don’t need another bass
>>126953826Yeah but I like having different options
I just accent the offbeat with staccato double stops
>>126953826The truth is in what you use. Anything past two planks. If you're not getting checks for playing and your plank sits for four months, it's time to let it go.
If I learn guitar would it be easy to make decent sounding stuff with a synth keyboard?
How the fuck do I hold the tremolo arm in my hand while playing without changing the pitch, at least with traditional strat tremolo it's locked in the base position but on floyd rose the pitch always goes up or down and won't stay in one place

new vocs for the folks. 80s disco/funk style
never thought I'd be interested in fuzz until I tried it
the beautiful thing about effects is that they often push you into new territories with your playing, in the sense that you adjust your playing to fit the new effect and next thing you know you're playing shit you never played before.
also, the katana go iand its ilk are the easiest ways to try out new effect types before investing in them.
>>126953935Recorded some riffs so I won’t forget them
>>126953960I could and have made due with just one Strat but I like having different layouts and pickup options for sounds and feels
>>126953971That Strat is a keeper, the Super Sonic is the only humbucker guitar I play (that EVH was dirt cheap and I never play it, my dad has already claimed it as his), the LP is one of the redundant ones
>>126954043a little slow tempo for disco innit?
Feels more R&B to me. Guitar could cut over the backing track a bit better and just a little drier, also a couple different licks that one over stays its welcome and starts to glare out like a looped beat.
Better than your other work. Add some bass. You have the groundwork laid for an actual song you just need to layer some details now.
>>126953791That revstar is a fine choice for a p90 guitar.
>>126954046what kinda fuzz? i have a big muff that i hate and a peppermint fuzz that i love. Bias controls are 100% necessary for that true fuzz sound imo
>>126954078built in katana fuzz he said in the comment you dingus
>>126954078I played with both a "60s fuzz" which ima guess is a tonebender and "Muff Fuzz" which is obv big muff. I liked both for different reasons. i quickly realized chords were now stupid and that was fun.
>>126954068duly noted.
its meant to have a vocal on top to keep it from feeling too repetitive as well. too bad my singing is shit
>>126954099Katana go has 3 different fuzzes ya dingus
>>126954110Singing is easy and its probably not shit you probably just don't like the sound of your own voice yet.

>>126954077It gets more play time than the LP but the Fano is my go to P90 guitar. I like all three a lot but they’re all redundant. The Revstar was $500 and it isn’t worth selling because I’ll never get a guitar that great for $500 again. I got the Revstar first and loved it, then wanted the Special because I figured if I love the Revstar I’ll really love a proper LP, then got the Fano because I wanted something Fender-ish but with P90s and a Tune o Matic. The Fano checks every box for me, the LP is “better” than the Revstar but not by much, and definitely not $500 vs $1600 better. The bridge on the Revstar is the weak point but that can be replaced, and the bridge on the LP is also the weak spot but it’s been replaced with a compensated bridge and that’s helped. The Revstar stays in tune better. Both have far necks but the LP’s neck is fatter, and the Revstar’s neck has a poly plastic-y finish feel to it while the LP has a sticky nitro finish on it. Both would benefit from some sanding on the neck. The Revstar is a really well thought out guitar, Yamaha nailed it with them. I’ve never played one of the newer gens so I’m not sure how much better or worse they are from the gen 1s but the gen 1s at least are great
>>126953791I would sell 1 strat, the van halen guitar, revstar, fano, supersonic. Then get a top tier guitar with PAFs.
^average youtuber when posting a video titled like "gibson is FINISHED with these Yamaha guitars"
>>126954191>>126954174Switch out the Fano and get rid of the special them. I never felt the need to have more than 1 p90 guitar personally
I got rid of my P90 squier, I liked the pickups but everything else was so shit
>>126954143That’s what I’m on the fence about but it sucks selling a guitar that you already bought that you have no issues with other than “it’s similar to something else”
>>126954191Super Sonic will be a top tier PAF guitar for me once I get around to replacing the pickups and ditching the two volume pots for master volume and tone
>>126954197Nah if they were the same price the Gibson is better, the Revstar just shines because it’s very good while being very affordable. Nothing touches it at its price point. If I had the LP first I’d have never gotten the Revstar. I just don’t think it’s worth listing the Revstar for sale and it taking months and months to sell because they’re not nearly as popular as something name brand just to maybe get $500 out of it.
>>126954276learn to choose better in the future. dead weight drags you down.
>>126954276I know a lot of guys who put their guitars up for sale as soon they get them because it takes a long time to get a buyer
>>126953791IMO keep 1 SSS, 1 HH, 1P90
then you're good
>>126954302Yeah the P90 stuff was a lot of experimenting, the Revstar was my first P90 guitar and I kept trying to keep it as something Gibson-ish and not another Fender style guitar but still ended up getting and preferring a Fender style guitar but with Gibson style guts
>>126954307Do people really? Buying a good deal to flip makes sense, but buying specifically expecting to want to sell it is retarded
>>126954310I prefer SS honesty
>>126954382Eternal trader things I guess, if they get a bite and don't mind parting they make a couple extra bucks, and if they still want to keep the guitar they say it's sold but forgot to take down the listing
Been wanting to get a good amp after using only an orange crush 12 for the past few years. I want something with a plexi sound and I've been looking at the friedman pink taco ii and the little sister, does anyone have any recs for plexi sounding amps that i won't have to use an attenuator with? preferably around 1.5k in price
>>126954528just get a plexi. costs about 700 more but buy once cry once.
>>126954382Wouldn't SSS be able to do everything SS can? Do the Gilmour mod
I downloaded a Plexi sounds pretty good
>>126954197I mean the new Revstars are better than LPs in alot of ways. They just don't have the name power.
>>126954420I guess yeah as perpetual trade fodder trading for the next best thing that makes sense
>>126954617One of my Strats can but it doesn’t feel the same as the Tele or as the Mustang. Bridge and neck out of phase like on a Mustang sounds different than positions 2 and 4 out of phase on a Strat, it’s a sound I didn’t think I’d like as much as I do compared to the regular out of phase Strat sounds. I just like having no middle pickup in the way
>>126954653Before I got the Super Sonic I really considered another cheaper Revstar but with humbuckers to fill the HB role but then the Super Sonic popped up

I’ve been playing on and off for 20 years. 3 years now been going hard but haven’t tuned drop c since I was 16/17. I played this the set up a little bit but couldn’t get rid of fret buzz. Overall iffy with the pickups at this point.
So I talk to a tech at guitar center in Manchester CT. I tell him my issues, what I want, and he recommends I grab thicker strings. I’m skeptical but maybe he knows something I don’t. It was 11s with a heavy bottom. I get it back 24 hours later.
Fret buzz is still bad, and it can’t hold tuning. I’ve never played a guitar that can’t hold tuning this bad. At first I thought, new strings need to be stretched and worn. Long story short a month or 2 later I decide to switch the strings to 11s with normal bottom. Take the old strings off and the bridge falls off…. This clown didn’t tighten the set screws on the bridge. So I think I’ve solved the tuning issues. Nope. Between that and now not being able to get good tone I contemplate taking a $1k hit and selling it to guitar center to stop obsessing over the issues. I’m not even playing at this point, just trying to get a good metal sound out of my helix and nothing is working, it sounds like shit, possibly the worst pickups for metal I’ve ever played. Da fuck was esp thinking with these. I end up putting it aside and playing my other guitars.
cont.
>>1269600823 weeks ago I decided to switch to lighter strings and adjust the truss rod myself(which I’ve always been bad at). 10s with a heavy bottom. Figured the 10s should be ok with the nut being filed for the 11s. Swap them, adjust the truss rod the smallest amount. Fret buzz gone and tuning is stable. While working on it I notice one more thing.. the pickups are so fucking low. So I raise them to the appropriate height.
Guys…. These Duncan’s are sick af. The guitar feels and plays amazing. I pretty much payed a dude $80 to change my strings. Didn’t file the nut, moved the pick ups the wrong way, fret buzz out the ass. I’m so fucking mad that this tech is working on guitars for people. So unhelpful to whilst talking to him.
Let’s add to my story while we’re at it. Same place had 3-4 used guitars last weekend. I was going to buy at least one. They had a brand new Matt Heafy Epiphone Les Paul in white. Pretty much brand new. I see it was going to buy it. The action was LITERALLY and inch off the fret board, the high e was wound the wrong way, the locking tuners were all wound 10 plus times, and it was sticky af.
The also had a Misha Jackson that someone swapped emgs in. Pick it up and the tone knob falls off, then the bridge pick up came unscrewed so the higher strings were being muted bc the pickup was touching them. I ask a sales guy if we can screw it in, he says “yea we should check this stuff before it goes out to the floor” and then proceeds to stare at me. Dude give me a fucking screwdriver and I’ll do it! There was at least 4 other sick guitars that had some unplayable issue.
I find this to be unacceptable and when I go to GC this is the vibe I get. That they don’t care. I feel like years ago it was different.
End rant.
>>126954174What did you pay for the Fano? Was it used or did you spec it?
>>126959715wait huh short scale? i thought longer scale was better for downtuning
>>126960169depends on the tone you want
>>126960095adjusting the nut and frets aren't included in the $80 guitar center set up. but yeah you should learn to do TRAIN adjustments on your own instrument
>t was a tech at guitar center
>>126960227What's the more expensive set up?
>>126960457the one that's like an extra $30 is literally just cleaning and polishing the guitar lmao. you have to add nut and fret work specifically; there are specific sku codes for those. techs can bill store setup on instruments and make a little money but if everything in the store played well you would lose half of your sales and basically only have walk ins. you will likely be fired if you have less than a 30% commission rate. meaning you need like $3k a month of sales as a guitar tech. sounds easy to do in a large city but you wouldn't believe how many people would rather buy a new guitar than spend $80 on a setup
>>126960570Why would I spend $80 on a setup? I can turn a truss rod
>>126960664why would you buy a new guitar instead of just getting better?
listen man
im not spending 80 bucks on a setup
the guitar cost me 200 bucks, i can sell it used for 150 bucks and buy a new guitar
lmao guess i was right and struck a nerve
I think I'm going to put the bass down until I can play 1 song on guitar. The skill gap is insane and every time I jam out on my bass, I look at my jazzmaster and its crying to played the same.
but anyway you should definitely learn to do your own setups because even $2k instruments still need frets leveled and god help you if you spend $2k on an upright bass--it's going to need a lot of work. i would always advocate doing it yourself but you should know that the basic tools are going to total like $300
>>126960158Used $2000, it’s an older Alt de Facto from when Dennis was still working there as a builder but after he had sold to Premier Builders Guild (who sold the company to another company who have since sold it back to Dennis). It was ordered by Chicago Music Exchange in early 2013 and sold by Chicago Music Exchange in late 2015. The thing was near mint when I got it. It’s a great guitar
Power brick came yesterday
Phase 90 and Pedal Board come today
That's a TS, Chorus, Analog Delay, Phaser, Compressor and Looper
I am ordering a Klone and a Fuzz probably today
Morning Glory next month
High-Gain and Reverb are both on my Orange and I am happy with them.
Any others I should be getting, /gg/uys? I was thinking a second delay for spaceship stuff. Maybe a Univibe for that Hendrix/Trower cosplay.
>>126960169Longer scales obviously are better for that. I'm just saying that nobody is using them in that genres. It's part of the tone and aesthetic to use stuff that was accessible in the 70s or with sludge to use anything that's cheap and horrible.
>>126961169Learn how to actually play before going balls deep into effects. I had tons of pedals and sold them all because I realized I relied on effects and cool sounds more than actually playing. Four or five years of playing clean with just an overdrive pedal got me to play more precise and articulate, and then I got back into pedals. Don’t let pedals and effects be your crutch, let them be something that complements your playing.
>>126960570lol I have to crunch the numbers on this. I was just funposting.
Doesn't the tech work count as basically straight commission? You're not making nine thousand per month. Commision is what 10% profit, 2% sales?
There's also the fact that these places are managed by apes that pit every staff member on the floor against each other. People think they become a guru when they get a management position and can preach ABC to peons. This is common across all retail.
>>126961260Don't make assumptions homie I've been playing since 1993 lol I'm just a) getting back into the hobby and b) switching back to analog because dsp makes me sad.
>>126961169I reccomend trying the TS with an EQ and see what you can get. If you still want the Klone after that go for it.

>>126961327I love the clarity of the Klon circuit, I absolutely fell for it the other day playing with a Klone on my Katana Go. I had been on the fence about it but I am sold now.
I use the TS for obvious applications, but I also use it to tighten up my amp distortion and give me a nice, gain-y brownish sound when I want.
You're dead-on about getting an EQ though, I just don't know if I have the ear to use it effectively. Going to have to get an education.
>>126961272Ok then in that case yeah go wild and have fun. Pedals are fun when they’re complimentary but are lame when they’re a trick to hide sloppy playing.
>>126961377Agreed. I fucking love my beat-to-shit 2002 MIM that I've modded out. I have seven guitars and it's my second favorite behind my Studio. Different guitars, different applications, both amazing. The Studio is an excellent example of a stock guitar going above-and-beyond, and the MIM is my personal sig.

Anyway I digress, sorry for the sperg. I'm just excited about guitar again for the first time in forever.
toan is store in the balls capeesh?
>>126961540Toan is stored in the boipussy if you play a telecaster, a jazzmaster, or a jaguar.
>>126961269no the tech is hourly plus commission. you have to make an ungodly amount of money to make decent commission. they would post the quarterly results of top techs in the country and some guys were generating $7k a month in tech sales and it only equated to like $27/hour. that's like having a setup to do every hour every day for 18 days of the month. gc sucks and there are genuinely some good techs there. they make you pass a written test but it's possible to know how to mentally do the work but not physically. i was given the choice to resign because my sales were low. i had to do full setups (but repair and spot fret leveling) at the $80 price under the table because it was a struggle to get people in the door. the other annoyance is they put the tech right at the entrance and want you to be there most of the day and all the other sales people fuck off and around in the back so you literally have every single customer asking you for help in drums etc.
>>126961377i just buy good tuners and call it a day. 90% of your sound is from your amp unfortunately and those are expensive

The closest center to me has the tech stranded toward the back. I assume yours was trying to double dip the tech as a door person because they don't want to pay for security.
It seems like these places have given up their goal to be a "cool hangout" and have just punted to the most basic beginner product lines with a few custom shops hanging 15 feet up at the ceiling. The sales staff just parks it at the register.
Paying their tech a straight up hourly to improve the overall sales floor is the common sense move. Car dealerships don't park a bunch of unserviced beaters on the lot and expect their mechanics to generate sales.
I understand the difference between a good tech and $80 tune and polish. Say they give you a room to set up a luthier shop, sell concessions, and just be a body while people utilize their practice spaces. Throw concerts. The stores have no vision or culture. Unfortunately, they've buried most other brick and mortar. Online retail will cut them back down.

>>126965108>perfectly intonatedis not going to happen on an instrument that doesn't have fanned frets
>stays in tune in my professional experience the secret to get 3+3 headstocks or similar to say in tune is to relieve the nut on the back side with a file. ernie ball sells compensated nuts but you still have to fit them so just easier to work on the original. if you've ever head your guitar creak when tuning the string is getting pinched in the nut and causing tuning stability. even without the creaking this can happen with bends and hard fretting pressure. having a crappy neck without good stabilizer rods can also make the neck relief swing wildly with temperature changes
>>126965275Well I guess not if you cake a ton of mud on your tone this sounds like I have pillows in front of my speakers. Even with the booming over compensation you can hear how tinny the highs are. Theres like an upper register in the timbre that just doesn't sound sweet. >>126965258I wish I would have tried a HSS sooner. I was always preoccupied with HSH and put that off for years and years until getting this last year. Now I’m very glad I still have a single coil in the neck. It’s a player 1 and it buttfucks any other Strat I’ve played in the last decade. I’ve played hundreds, and some have had nicer components or tighter setups, but none of them have felt or sounded as all around 10/10 as this one does. It is a limited edition but I don’t think that those receive any extra QC, just unique features like the headstock, and pickup wiring. I chalk some of it up to personal preference but I think this one just got all the right hands on the right components at the right time. I wouldn’t trade it for any other Strat new or vintage.
>>126964433>do electric guitars need a bunch of extra equipment to be played?Yes. The purist approach is to just play into an amp. If you think abstract, guitar is just the controller, kind of like a midi keyboard, the signal it outputs is merely a rough suggestion about what sound you actually want to produce. You can then manipulate it any way you want, which you probably want to start with emulating the good old amp and cabinet.
