Eruption is the only worthwhile song on that album, because it has very interesting and intricate guitarwork, which is allowed to shine front and center. The rest of the album is forgettable, despite also having interesting guitarwork.

I'll admit Eruption was melodically simplistic and didnt reflect what Eddie was capable of. But it was still iconic and if it wasnt on the first album, then Eddie's tapping technique probably would not have gotten noticed as much. Tapping is STILL overly used by rock guitarists to this day, its not like Eruption didnt have a HUGE affect on rock guitarists

I couldn't get into this until I had a listened to a lot of the "metal" kind of rock from this time. Then VH1 clicked, because they had a radically fresh sound for 78 that I hadn't picked up on before. Roth's crazy vocals, how those backing vocals blend, and of course the incredible style of the guitar playing. It all sounds like something from the future. Stuff like Ice Cream Man and Eruption bring really crucial variety that cement the whole things as an excellent album, it's got the big catchy singles, it oozes style, but yeah, ultimately VH1 kind of boils down to being a decent pop rock album that sounds cool as hell.
