Why is modern punk so fucking lame? Every "hardcore kid" I see is a sheltered, suburbanite crybaby who freaks out if they see/hear anything "offensive". If bands like the Sex Pistols or Germs were still around, they'd be called racist fascists and get de-platformed. Don't just call me a /pol/ boomer either. I'm genuinely curious.

The 1970s was genuinely a very violent time. Most of the punks were just art kids who were shit scared all the time so acted out by making themselves looks like psychos to scare off all the various peoples who would want to kick their head in. It's the same reason today the girl who dyes her hair and wants to show that she doesn't care is usually the most anxious and afraid girl.

Not to mention people genuinely thought society was crumbling and punk was just a way to let out the frustration of being the generation that would see it collapse. Which it did and we live in the sanitised world remade up by corporations and the rich which is also another reason why punk cant exist anymore. Because there is no more society to rebel against (and if you don't know what that means then you REALLY have to learn how the 1970s was so different).

Punk was always "cool" with gay people but it wasn't tranny worship. Punk, at least the version I experienced in USA in the 90s, was almost 100 percent suburban white high school boys who were fuck ups and misfits. There were gay people but nobody was clapping for them because they were gay.
It was also provably straight up a suburban white teenage male thing. But it wasn't 'enforced' and it wasn't conscious, it's because there were just not a lot of blacks.

I live in MN and the issues here are pretty overstated. The 2020 race riots are the worst it ever was and we still lead the country by nearly all economic and health metrics.
That being said the sense of community has still been utterly devastated since I was born however that's a nation wide problem.
