Man, this album is just too much. How do I get it to click? Is there something I could specifically focus on during my next listen to finally unravel the mystery of its outstanding quality?

I listened to it like 6 times in a row one day so you could try that

Is Obscura or None So Vile the most inaccessible metal classic?

honestly? idk
maybe try to find some entry level dissodeath and then go back to this one, maybe it will work (it worked for me, when i tried the same to get into grindcore)

I've already listened to many records by Ulcerate, Ad Nauseam, Gigan, Portal, Imperial Triumphant, Pyrrhon, Convulsing, and other Gorguts albums. I did like many of those, but Obscura is just something else. I don't think there's much more quality exposure for me out there. There's been an uptick in my appreciation of Obscura, but it went from me just finding it straight up bad to me being neutral on it.

Is None So Vile inaccessible? I didn't think it was, Obscura is definitely harder to get into for the average person I reckon.

NSV isn't even in the same league as Obscura.

You were supposed to listen to one of these.

It's inaccessible for zoomers. They expect overproduced, quantized studio autism where everyone play like they're atomic clocks on meth and have zero room for breathing, like Archspire.

fpbp. i think it was just twice for me but there is no epic lifehack for music, you just have to listen to it until it makes sense like a foreign language. if you're the type of normie who believes "music is a universal language" then stuff like this wont be for you

sad if true, what makes that album good is that everyone enjoyed it from the get-go back in the day

That album has its own unique language which is similar to death metal, but more singular. I'd just take more time for it to soak in, like listen to it every year or something and see if you hear more. There's some leitmotifs and shit.

Canadians always come up with the craziest music

Give it a couple of years. Listen to the songs you enjoy and keep coming back to try the others.

NSV is full of groovy and sikk riffs anyone can appreciate. Mortal Throne of Nazarene and Nespithe come to mind as inaccessible, but Obscura is its own thing. Symphonies of Sickness might also be a bit much for a normie.

Is there a reason you want to like it? Not everyone likes coffee or beer, either.

it's quite demanding for the listener, I'll suggest not listen to the whole album in one go

Lord Worm leaving Cryptopsy was possibly the saddest thing that happened in death metal if we're not counting musician deaths
