I've never listened to music where the singer is a woman. Idk why but I always correlated female singer songs with gay guys and other women so I just can't listen to women singing because I'm not a woman and I'm not gay.

I'm a normal person so here's my normal analysis. she's the most easy on the ears type of alternative pop. she's got a mysterious, tragic persona with pleasing old america aesthetic. she sings about unconventional and desperate love where you're willing to give up your dignity and being in peace with it, calling it her own type of freedom. women relate to that, despite accusations of romanticising abuse.

I think it's because LDR makes music that gives a lot more gravity to feelings that young women commonly have about their lives, or at least, that's what they think she's doing with her music. At face value her lyrics are just more "wah my ex boyfriend / current boyfriend is so mean" whereas the actual music those lyrics are attached to has a sort of dramatic sound that makes an issue as common and simple as that sound like a real tragedy. Basically, it makes them feel like they're not retards for crying about their exes.
I'm a guy, so obviously my opinion doesn't make a difference, but I like her mainly because of her aesthetics, and because her voice is great.
