Vacation [I.R.S., 1982]
Bizzers will no doubt rend their overpriced garments when this fails to follow Beauty and the Beat into Platinum City, but all its failure will prove is that you can't build a wall of sound (much less an empire) out of tissue paper. The uniform thinness of the non-Kathy Valentine songs here does clear up the mystery of why virtual non-writer Belinda Carlisle gets to play frontwoman--her voice fits the image. B-
>that fuckin' early 80s 60s revival fad

>>126980788 (OP)Jane Weidlin was a mega cutie and best Go-Go.
Morrissey started his "music career" as a zine writer and fanclub leader for the NY Dolls. Jane was the equivalent, except she ran a Sparks fanclub.
apparently none of them initially could play instruments and had to learn on the fly. the original version of "The Beat" came out in England in 1980 and became a popular import so after they got signed to I.R.S. (described as a dumping ground for music acts nobody else wanted) they rerecorded the song and it shot to the top of the charts in early '82.
this album however was the usual sophomore slump when the label demanded a hasty follow up which they didn't have the material for
>>126981272Jane could play. She was a little LA scene kid. Billy Zoom from X taught her how to play guitar. She even played a silver Gretsch like him in the early days.
Don't know about the others.
