Even though he was partly right, Vedder was not from Seattle and neither were lots of others.
He only trusted those guys from the Seattle underground he knew personally (Marc Arm, Melvins, Tad, the Olympia scene etc)

So to him these other Seattle big names looked like bandwagon jumpers who were propped by corporate promotion

Soundgarden paved the way for everyone else and was the first release on Sub Pop, Stone and Jeff from PJ were in the underground scene with Green River long before Nirvana existed, and AIC's Facelist was a big grunge hit record a year before Nevermind dropped. Of those bands, Nirvana was the only one that wasn't actually from Seattle. Cobain was a fag.
