Lessons are about 300 a month and I'm not spending 3 grand a year on lessons. I'm mid 20s wanna be in a band. Will a book like this get me off the ground?

you need to be able to read sheet music because they don't print them in tablature. my instructor from way back made me learn from Hal Leonard books. lessons are better, and you should do them eventually if you want to get serious.
all in all, you'll probably quit with just that book.

check the book out in preview mode and see if you would want to use it. i remember by lesson 1 book taught stuff like how to sit properly with the thing, how to move your fingers, etc. pretty much stuff you can find online now. though the book consolidates it all.
it might just be... boring. why don't you just learn songs like most people?

I have a giant cock that swings when I play naked in my basement studio. Sometimes my hot wife comes down and blows me while I play. You'll never be me reading these boomer books.
