Basically he pretended to hate fame despite signing for a major label and releasing a pop rock album, there also the whole thanking geffen during the vmas and rolling stone covers and top of the pops appearance but thats another story. Anyways slts happened to be thwir biggest song so he felt the need to pretend to hate it despite bringing him the money and fame he desperately craved

Proof that the Cobain posts are a psyop. Ask yourselves: why are there multiple Cobain posts a day? Why does nobody else find this odd? If I gave a shit I'd go after the Morrison posters also, but I'm just one guy. Are there any other humans here?

Most of their music is awful. There is a good likelihood that this is the most overrated band of all time. Most overrated bands have something redeeming about them no matter how small it may be. Not with Nirvana. Their music is pure garbage.

It's not his best work. It's a good song but it's shallow, overplayed and has aged poorly compared to the rest of their discography. It barely sounds like Nirvana, it's almost more Pearl Jam than Nirvana in the sense that it's less good.

Probably because he always saw himself and his band as an outsider, which they always were compared to the mainstream pop industry, that was until that song.
Suddenly they were dead in the middle of mainstream pop music and that kind of fucked his world view.
At that point you are no longer an artist with a vision, you are just a dancing monkey for the masses and he didn't want to be that. Its probably pretty hard to navigate out of though, as he still has to keep putting out records and the rest of the band probably wants to stay in the mainstream to make lots of money.
Foo fighters are probably what the rest of the band wanted to do ie max money making and he prob wanted to go back to doing weird dissonant shit. So it all fell apart.

This song was written about Earth’s Dylan Carlson a.k.a. The Guy Who Wielded the Shotgun and the verse lyrics appear to be about trafficking children:

Kurt Cobain ended up hating “Smells Like Teen Spirit” for several reasons, despite (or because of) its massive success. Here's a breakdown of why:
1. It Overshadowed the Rest of Nirvana’s Work

The song became so popular that it defined Nirvana in the public eye.

Cobain felt it misrepresented the band’s broader sound and message. He once said:

“I can barely, especially on a bad night like tonight, get through ‘Teen Spirit.’ I literally want to throw my guitar down and walk away.”

He felt other songs—like “Drain You” or “Aneurysm”—were more musically interesting, but fans and media fixated on this one.
2. It Attracted the Wrong Crowd

Nirvana came from the underground punk and grunge scene. After “Teen Spirit,” Cobain was disturbed by the growing number of fans who didn’t understand or share the band’s anti-mainstream values.

In his words:

“The audience was full of jocks and frat boys who used to beat me up in high school. I hated that.”

This irony—that a song mocking mainstream apathy was embraced by the very culture it critiqued—deeply bothered him.
3. He Grew Tired of Playing It

Cobain was an artist who valued authenticity and evolution. Playing the same song repeatedly, especially one he felt misunderstood, became exhausting and disheartening.

It didn’t help that every show and interview seemed to revolve around that one hit.

4. The Lyrics Were Meant to Be Nonsense

Cobain said he “was basically trying to rip off the Pixies” with the quiet-loud dynamic of the song.

The lyrics were intentionally vague and sarcastic, but people took them seriously or tried to decode them like scripture.

That reaction clashed with Cobain’s own ambivalence toward meaning and fame.

It's not just Courtney, although by her own admission she slashed the tires to all of his cars at the time before he got murdered. Same with practicing his signature and being the one who hired an electrician to work on the greenhouse while obviously knowing he'd find Kurt dead there. This took place after Dylan Carson was meant to 'check the house' but didn't, supposedly.

He liked the song until roughly summer of ‘92. Then something happened that caused a sudden shift in his thinking. Maybe the song just got too popular for his tastes?

first half (in one hand writing) doesn't scream suicide...to me it sounded like a letter he'd write if he was quiting the band

then in another handwriting "life which will be so much better without me" first actual suicidal sounding line

now he could've been super high and his handwriting went to shit, but idk

i think he was writing a letter explaining leaving the band/taking a pause on his music career to be published in Rolling Stone or something...then C. Love had him killed

"The worst crime I can think of would be to rip people off by faking it and pretending as if I'm having 100% fun. Sometimes I feel as if I should have a punch-in time clock before I walk out on stage. I've tried everything within my power to appreciate it (and I do,God, believe me I do, but it's not enough). I appreciate the fact that I and we have affected and entertained a lot of people. It must be one of those narcissists who only appreciate things when they're gone. I'm too sensitive. I need to be slightly numb in order to regain the enthusiasms I once had as a child. On our last 3 tours, I've had a much better appreciation for all the people I've known personally, and as fans of our music, but I still can't get over the frustration, the guilt and empathy I have for everyone. There's good in all of us and I think I simply love people too much, so much that it makes me feel too fucking sad. The sad little, sensitive, unappreciative, Pisces, Jesus man. Why don't you just enjoy it? I don't know! "
