Am I the only one who never gets impressed when bands and musicians put these elaboarated and expensive stage designs, with huge screens and epileptic visuals and lights and all kinds of gimmicky production?
I mean, don't get me wrong. I don't oppose to bands using projections and some cool lights there and there because it adds to the experience but, come on, I just want to see and hear musicians playing their music.
That's all it's needed.

The show is the main reason to attend. If I only cared about the music I could listen at home in better quality.

For a lot of releases or musicians/bands, that might be true, but when you see an actual talented and inspired musician filling a room with emotions, presence and vibes, that's an experience nothing like listening to recorded music at home.

Yeah, I agree, it's like getting the audience to submit by brute force.

Some bands should only be seen live, like GWAR

It can be cool if the music is good enough to warrant it. Rammstein definitely does not qualify.

Depends on how it compliments the actual songs/playing. I have zero interest in watching Beyoncé and her slaves do a bunch of dance routines with strobe lights if the band has to take a backseat on the show, for example. Same with the pyrotechnical overkill.
As far as contemporary musicians go, Madeon and Porter Robinson handle this sort of stuff with a good amount of tact.

I like gimmicks. As in actual stage acts like Gwar or some light theatrics like Alice Cooper. Not necessarily anything flashy.
