Iron Maiden's debut album is really fucking good. Opening track is killer with the intro riff. Their stuff with Dickinson is often touted as their best work but their first two albums are just as good, if not better in some cases. Dianno's got a really good voice, different than Bruce, maybe a little more generic but great regardless. Killers is great too, great songwriting with great solos. All in all I'll definitely be learning to play these on guitar in the coming months.

I think that's natural, after all - who is going to spent a great deal of time listening to things they dislike? Of course we ought to challenge ourselves on our dislikes, its why I've gone back and listened to Ulcerate more times than I've listened to some bands I do like, however most people will not do this. Especially people like crabguy who are a reviewer and have to keep crafting narratives to keep people interested in him over other reviewers, he carved out a niche by making grand statements about current paths of dissonance. Sometimes just presenting yourself as the opposite of the tides of time will be perceived as novel and new in itself, regardless of the quality of what you say.

Its just politics, and I don't mean Mikko or left vs right (although that is a part of it I guess, especially so in hyper sensitive snowflakes like the crab), but rather DsO represents a shifting from the old to the new. Realistically SMRC should be an album that oldtards like and highly regard, but they are too stubborn to admit it, because of the later DsO albums existing, the only albums that feel safe for them to like are the two trash ones, which mind you that two songs on SMRC are from that period anyways.

Its inevitable to lose people in the shift from consonance to dissonance, just as it will be inevitable to lose even more people when you shift to higher aspirations like Ehnahre/JG, that doesn't make it artistically incorrect however. Medtner lived in poverty and was basically ignored for his whole career by both masses and academics, all save for a small cult following, but there is literally not a single instance of him attempting to make himself more palatable for others.

The thing is that musical theory is observational. Not intentional. If you use notes that are exclusively in one key, its still in that key even if you didn't know. The same goes if the first half is fits one key, and the latter another. Now there's a modulation. And the same goes if everything except for one note is.
