Honestly its bretty good, I love how deliberately slowed, doomy, and painful it is on some of the sections; The Fire of This is one such example, you really have to be into dissonance to stick around those ringing chords. I would wager the three album back to back - Vast Chains, Ressentiment, and Ship of Theseus was his best period, the only downside to Vast Chains is that it lacks a lot of the canons and multi voice polyphony of Ressentiment and especially Ship of Theseus. On the flip side Ship of Theseus is straddled a bit by some ambient. Probably Ressentiment is the most complete album he made, even if VC and SoT have a few specific areas that are stronger.

It's literally just power chords everywhere and you can sweep through quartal fifth chords with one finger. The fingerings normally used for a minor third plays a fourth. There is a lot to draw from when it comes to the styles of different composers, periods, and forms (as in "song structures"). There is also a lot of room for the growth of music as a living breathing organism in the involvement of people who actually play strings and brass and what not actively collaborating with ensembles more typical of metal and rock music instead of just simulating it. You can't invented something like diwnpicking or slap bass on a computer using samples because they are physical phenomena that prove the non-abstract nature of music. I wish more classical forms were common in metal and stuff. Many would fit so welll. I think rondo and theme of variations (my favorite) are the most natural fits for metal. I think the problem with modern metal is the lack of sweat, communication, and human interaction, but I agree and None So Vile is a good medium for me. Something like Manowar also comes to mind.
