I think the self titled-Tusk run of the Buckingham/Nicks era is best, but the Bob Welch albums are better than what came after that. And yes, better than the Green era.

yeah mostly because of Dave. you and i had talked about this before i believe. first 3 tracks on Penguin are good. Night Watch is okay too.

i think Heroes are Hard to Find gets too much shit. it has some of Christine's best. Bob's stuff on the second half is underrated too. it's a cozy album for me.

Yeah it’s a shame because otherwise it’s some of Welch’s, and even Christine McVie’s, best work imo. If you substituted one or two even mediocre Welch or McVie songs for the Walker songs, I think people would like it a lot more. Still a top-ten Mac album for me regardless

Yeah, the individual songs are very strong, but the whole thing doesn't really come together. Even Bob and Christine's songs are a little incongruous, his being much more moody and psychedelic than usual and hers being especially jaunty, probably because Kirwan wasn't there to bridge the gap with his own style. They figured out how to compliment each other on Mystery to Me. Still, you could call Penguin Welch's coming of age moment in the band, when he really took the reigns and found his voice.
