MES is a top-10 lyricist. Don't ignore the lyrics, they're awesome. The music also rocks in an obvious punk idiom, though the style is often repetitive, which may turn many off. I love them.

The fall offer you a unique experience you won't hear anywhere else and if you do it's because they were ripping off the fall so naturally its going to take some effort to get aquainted with their style. The music is heavily rhythmic and endowed in diverse genres like krautrock, noise, rockabilly.. etc while simultaneously setting the standard for post punk. Mark e smiths stream of consciousness lyrics with his cutting unapologetic delivery is extremely based.

as a fellow the fall skeptic, this is the only song i've heard from them that i've enjoyed

i listened to a couple of their early albums and none of it ever clicked. the quantity over quality thing doesn't help

Every pretentious bourgeois music critic adored the fall though. If MES wasn't in the band I think he'd hate them.
The fact that there's 1000000000 fall albums tells you how little effort went into any of these 'songs'.

There's too many to name. I think people get filtered by the Fall because they go on RYM and see 10 bolded albums and don't know where to start but if you just put on any random Fall release from the 80s you'll fall ass backwards into like half a dozen top tier post punk songs.

Anyone who churns out thousands of songs is putting out quantity over quality, there are no exceptions to this, which explains why the fall haven't got any good songs in the first place.

Plenty of artists spend years finetuning 15 of the worst songs you've ever heard and plenty of artists improvise wonderful music multiple times a week

The Fall achieved the absolute high water mark of rock music between 1980 and 1983. They put out plenty of good music before and after that window, but the albums they put out on Rough Trade and Kamera were untouchable by anyone.

Tastelets get hung up because they can’t handle a northern accent and need a song’s melody to be sung by the vocalist in order for their virgin ears to be able to process it. In the Fall, the melody was handled by the bass (Steve Hanley is elite) while MES focused on the GOAT lyrics, delivery, and abusing his musicians until they were able to play him what he heard in his head.

Hit the North is a good song but I don't really care for anything else by them.

In fact, unlike most british post punk atmospheric/arty (siouxie, joy division, cocteau twins, new order...) acts, The Fall play it raw and direct indebted to rockabilly, garage rock, surf music.

False. Also in the big scheme of things The Fall is actually underrated in comparison with its generational peers, best ever list albums or whatever.
>>127066212
The Fall is quantity as well as quality. As John Peel used to say in his radio programs you must get all their records.
>>127066711
I actually think The Fall always delivered good melodies, they were adventurous but without neglecting the melody/hook. Also i'll say every Fall period is different each other and great in itself.
