Also rap used to be a lot better at sampling well (see Paul’s Boutique and Fear of a Black Planet) and would frequently sample rock, jazz, blues, soul, funk and even movie soundtracks while modern rap producers frequently just sample other rappers who already sampled something else creating an uncreative ouroboros of samples.

when Notorious B.I.G. (((sampled))) Diana Ross's "Im coming out" song, thats not even a sample, thats a straight up cover tune. Diana Ross should get at least 50% of the song writing credits and royalties for that rap song, because the rapping is just a background effect, its just basically stealing the entire "Im coming out" song and just adding a little rap and an added singing chorus.
