If a rapper died in the last decade that has a tattoo on his face, I didn't even know his name. Somebody "huge" would die and everyone would be talking about it. I would finally listen to an album if I could tolerate going through the whole thing and I would be so disappointed at what it sounded like. Spiritually, it is so far removed from hip hop that it's embarrassing to think that this is where it's all come to. Youtube 24/7 anime lo-fi hip hop instrumental slop has WAY more class and rights of succession from earlier hip hop.

i feel like if it werent for covid and a lot of them dying or going to prison it would have been the grunge of rap. it really was the last organic form of rap to push rap forward, like if lil peep and xxxtencion didnt die they would have been the new generation of rappers to take over and drake and kendrick and ye would be old fags and irrelevant.
I think the whole emo rap thing would have expanded into like an explosion of different sub genres for rap, like how metal has a million subgenres
