5150 sounds dated now.

25 years old and it still sounds lightyears ahead of all other house music

i know this is ironic but 5150 is one of their best and i'm tired of pretending it's not
they polished the fuck out of the sound, probably the most studio heavy album, but the songs are good goddammit

agreed. Sammy should have finished his "Best of All Worlds" tour with Inside. Sleeper hit, fans would have lost their damn minds, including me.

>it's dated sounding after 40 years
no shit, sherlock. it was still ahead of its time.

Ed got a new guitar tech who hooked Ed up with Bob Bradshaw who got him into wet-dry-wet which sounds very over processed. Ed's creativity was going down hill so he makes up for it with a lot of rack mounted gear

Appreciate the answer that didn't warrant trashing DLR or earlier Eddie playing

I guess my secondary question is what later bands used 5150 type sound that would indicate 5150 being ahead by being an early album to demonstrate such a sound

no one

this video shows why Ed's later guitar sound is not worth copying

5150 is pure '80s synthesizer mom rock. You might have holes in your brain.

desu ed's guitar playing is barely a key sound of 5150 imo. having heard it several times, he plays much more reserved in contrast to the synthesizers. he does his usual soloing on stuff like summer nights, but it doesn't stick out like other VH albums
i think sammy made him more humble, pretty much the only tour where he would go on the keyboards to let sammy take lead guitar on several songs.

Cowboys From Hell was already ahead of its time, but this was lightyears ahead of the competition.

True. A real game changer. Fuck those who don't get it.

The production of this debut album is ABSOLUTELY amazing and WAY ahead of its time, you can listen to it and is still fresh even 3 decades ago which is crazy, a gem that aged like fine wine.

Really great track, saved. 2025 and still sounds like something you’d hear at a club in like 2100. Thanks for sharing

For me, this dnb album released in 1999 is one that immediately comes to mind

Diehard DLR fans will never admit the band levelled up with Sammy but they did. Just wish this and OU812 were mixed better. And toured outside of US more.

It's great that they dropped the "Eddie to the left and Michael Anthony to the right stereo mix on 5150.
