Anonymous No.127092374 [Report] >>127092437

if I had to guess, I'd say it's due to brazilian genres (choro, samba, bossa nova, folk, etc) having most soloists, especially those in wind instruments, playing the higher notes
Flute, trumpet and the higher saxophones have always been proeminent in brazilian music
Anonymous No.127092437 [Report] >>127092458 >>127093660
>>127092374
Trumpet has never been proeminent here though, you're wrong there, outside of town brass bands it never featured heavy in most of our music. And the soprano sax only really started getting very popular post-60s i would say, outside of the flute of course (forever the most popular wind here), the early choro guys played clarinet and alto or tenor sax.
Anonymous No.127092458 [Report] >>127092517

>Trumpet has never been proeminent here though, you're wrong there
I've heard it quite a few in bossa nova, Tom Jobim uses it vastly, for instance
>And the soprano sax only really started getting very popular post-60s i would say
yeah, but the same thing happened in the US as well
I suppose Coltrane helped popularize it, because I can't think of any major sax players using it before he started his early to mid-60s streak

Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers (the one later known as Moanin')
Art Blakey - Free for All
Tony Williams - Spring (as Anthony Williams)
Max Roach - Members, Don't Git Weary
Elvin Jones - Live at the Lighthouse
Billy Cobham - Spectrum
Jack DeJohnette - Special Edition
Paul Motian - It Should've Happened a Long Time Ago
Bobby Previte - The Coalition of the Willing
Brian Blade - Landmarks

I think DeJohnette and Paul Motian are probably the most underrated drummer-leaders, both have many great albums
