What was the worst decade for music, and why was it the 90s? Discuss.
>>127096620 (OP)The 90s>2010s>2020s> pre-1960.
rock became so effeminate and emasculated in the 90's
>>127096620 (OP)>tons of dance and techno>Rock reached it's social apex>there was a wide variety of genres (especially indie) on offer taking the US by stormYeah, sounds pretty terrible to me too anon
Pure contrarianism
90s>00s>70s>80s>10s>60s>>>
>>20s
>>127096620 (OP)Fred's too based for OP. Many such beta cases.
>>127096620 (OP)We only think that because we are dumb, all genres that were ever populair, are still existing. Ofc not the size of what it once was, but music only gets bigger, with more styles. There are still bands making the exact same type songs as the beatles, and are probably pretty good, but it won't get popular on its own anymore. People moved on to other sounds. Maybe with the right tiktok vid or dance. Unless its just 1 person with a great voice, like that oliver anthony fuck
Limb Bizkit is a great band. Wes Borland is a pioneer.
>>127096620 (OP)It was an explosion of all kinds of genres. Why just pick a band in the final couple of years of the 90s.
>>127096620 (OP)That's what a man in his 30s look back then. Bleak.
>>127096620 (OP)You're currently living in the worst decade for music, retard
>>127096620 (OP)Where I live, I regularly see grown-ass men who dress exactly like this.
You could see bands, big bands, for under $20 in the 90s, making it automatically better than now or anytime in the past 20 years.
>>127096629Hair Metal was the 80s and they literally wore make up and dressed like fags. In the 90s bands went back to wearing T-shirts and jeans
The worst 10-year period was specifically 1995-2004
>>127097290but it is no longer the 2010s
>>127097688I don't even know where you buy pants that stop exactly at mid-calf, but these guys all do.
>>127097047I'd rank the best decades (going by innovation and amount of good songs) : 1980s>2000s>1970s>1990s>2010s>1960s>2020s>1950s>1940...
>>127097805It's where traditional real men shop. Best of luck finding it.
>>127097123genuinely one of the last guitarists to do something truly special with the instrument
>>127096629Yea, bro. 90's were the era of effeminate as fuck rock for sure.
>>127097805talk to those bros you might just learn something
>>12709662980's were filled with so-called rockstars who downright looked like drag queens Vs 90's which is just some average dude in jeans looking like druggie (mostly because he was). What the fuck are you on about?
>>127097805>>127099001I bought all my baggy shit at the skate shops back then.
>>127097956>2000s second to the 80sthis is a troll right?
>>127096620 (OP)Unironically true. Unfortunately this triggers the average 90s soilennial babby who sees his shit decade through rose colored lenses. Shitlennials turn into the ultimate snowflakes if you mention this though.
>>127097789This is all somehow worse
>>127096643>Rock reached it's social apexDecent bait but rock was at its absolute pinnacle in the 50s-70s. Still, made me reply so 4/10 bait
>>127096620 (OP)>worst decade is the 90sPlease tell me who unironically thinks this
70s>90s>80s>60s>00s imo
i thought it was the 2010s, rock died, poptimism becomes a thing, music got whittled down to pop and pop rap.
then the 2020s happened. its been such a bland nothing decade, even rap music hit the wall. now we are stuck with pop sluts and country music?
zoomers as a generation have created now new subcultures, no new genres.
its grim
>>127096620 (OP)The fifties is the absolute worst decade when it comes to music. It's actually amazing how worthless that decade was musically. It was all just different varieties of shit. You had to choose between badly recorded acoustic blues sung by a black guy in his fifties who couldn't afford to produce a good recording, the most inane rock and roll of all time, and - the absolute worst - that awful jazz pop sung by both male and female vocalists who aren't even harmonizing but just singing the same exact vocal line simultaneously. There was nothing - NOTHING worth listening to, and if you don't absolutely despise that decade with all your heart and soul they you just don't know how overwhelmingly shitty it was.
>>127101763Fair. Rock kind of was in a weird spot between metal and new wave in the 80s and kind of came back in the 90s with the help of Grunge and Hard Rock
>>127102047Amazingly it was still better than the 2010s.
>>127102024>rock diedRock was pretty much already out of the top 10 by the mid 90s and out of the top 40 by the 2000s
>>127102753but rock still existed in the 2000s, garage rock revival, post punk, emo, nu metal pop punk.
Now. nothing
>>127102790>emo, nu metal pop punk.none of that tween mall slop was "rock"
>>127096620 (OP)Limp Bizkit was more early 2000s obj. You're talking about music immediately post 9/11.
>>127097290This. They're too desperate to fit in and too socially clueless to realize nobody actually wants to listen to Hyperpop or Incelcore with them though and all the good incelcore musicians are like Gen xers to begin with probably.
>>127096620 (OP)It has to be the 470s BC, basically every genre that was around then has been completely forgotten by the general public.
>prog lyre>sandal and shout>winesip>laurelcore>Grecian choir>deerskin vibrations>twig n stick>hunter chants>sacrificial dirge>togawaveName a single song that was popular in 470 BC, I'll wait.
>>127102779that looks like the world's shittiest proto-selfie
>calls portraits "proto-selfies"
do zoomers really?
>>127102047you know my boomer dad born 1949, he likes big band music and then 60s rock but he hates most of the 20 years between Glenn Miller's death and the Beatles and thinks it was totally worthless except for some rock-and-roll.
The 2020s is so far a better decade for music than the 2010s was because we're seeing the resurgance of country and guitar music on the mainstream charts. Zoomers unironically have better taste in music than Millennials did and I say this as a Millennials
>>127102866i mean the 2010s was peak Obama era leftism/worship of manufactured corporate rap engineered for white Millenial hipsters
>>127102806>>127102798forgetting someone there?
>>127102877The one problem is we still need to purge the remaining washed up hacks from that time like Jack Antonoff who were shit then and have not improved with time.
>>127096620 (OP)I grew up in the 90s and disliked the music at the time, but having spent the last few years rediscovering it, I can tell you that it's great.
>>127102866You're only saying this because you cannot get laid. Stop it. The women you're trying to fuck in your first year of college or whatever normies do who aren't wage artists doesn't genuinely believe this either. She just sees it as music she does galaxy gas or whatever fent idfk too. You can stop pretending to believe this now.
>>127102881yes of course how can we forget the empress of 50s mush music for people who had a Jell-O Salad instead of brain matter between their ears
>>127102904*autists (yes this is nico sperg)
When you enter the real world though you will never hear hyperpop again.
>>127102877The defining albums of the 2010s like its Sgt. Pepper/Joshua Tree were 1989 and TPAB which says a lot most of it pretty bad.
You will still hear classic rock but not actually hear hyperpop or demoastep or whatever ever. That's just music people like you pretend to like because they mistakenly think their peers do. Data proves me correct aswell.
>>127102906My grandparents I think mainly listened to country so they were not implicated in this and did not have any of the posted people's records on their shelf.
I live how both Gen X and Gen Z have come to agree that millenials had the absolute worst taste in music. How did this even happen? Millenials are responsible for cancer like Max Martin and Jack Antonoff
>>127102921as far as it goes the 2000s music that people remember at all is generally Green Day, RHCP, and other rock or rock adjacent stuff and nobody still listens to or cares about any of the pop or rap stuff.
>>127102928You will literally never hear hyperpop again even if you cannot work and transition into assisted living or something. It's imagined impact. Same goes for 2010s music mind you haha. Nobody in real life is listening to FUN. They are in fact 1000% more likely to recognize the Velvet Underground or Hendrix.
>>127102925Well no that's not fair we weren't all like that just the ones who had power in the music industry and that was due to political reasons more than anything. The tasteless urbanite liberal side of the Millenial generation was the one that got to have major label contracts.
>>127102928I mean that though, Wake Me Up When September Ends will probably be played every September for the rest of forever while nobody listens to Nelly anymore, nobody.
>>127102934Hey fuck you I listen to Aim and Ignite and also The Format all the time.
>>127102928Also I can't agree with you on this but New England is really not like the USA proper and maybe won't even be in it for much longer with the anti drumoft thing talking about joining into Canada. So it's really yk. But I would say rap, dancehall, maybe some country music, extreme metal.but I think I live somewhere very different than where most of you do. Not that it's better or worse either. But not the same for sure. I would day Dsncehall by far in these parts though and rnb.
This week has been brutal on zoomers. Theyโre Decompensating as we speak.
>>127102877Yes, I realize thatโs what zoomer was told by YouTube mill grifters but actually we had endless bangers
https://youtu.be/LnET4RKXx5k
https://youtu.be/PsS-L4y3r-Y
https://youtu.be/wBoRkg5-Ieg
>>127102954Yes that's because you're a defect. It makes you feel included. Same reason some of you think the monkees are relevant. Like Chris Chan and the early 2000s or something. That doesn't negate that it had literally no impact. Pop is pop rap or pop country and pop rock simply no longer exists with most dock being extreme metal. So yeah.
>>127102928>>127102953To me Green Day actually makes me cringe now, and it's not even for retarded political reasons, I feel like they've lost their edge and have overall just aged poorly. I can't take songs like American Idiot and Wake me up When September Ends seriously anymore when they're being played on Dadrock stations, I just can't.
Ots rock some people definitely remember but not as much as nu metal least here.
>>127102960>Also I can't agree with you on this but New England is really not like the USA proper and maybe won't even be in it for much longer with the anti drumoft thing talking about joining into Canada. The worst part about millenial culture is facetious retards like you and I'm glad this culture of irony is starting to die off.
People remember some some Stomp Clap Hey from the 2010s and some rap but that's basically it. They don't give a shut abou5 any of the stuff you guys like because frankly it wasn't good. Music snobs black metal.
>>127102047Everly Brothers hit big in 57. that's good stuff. and very influential
>>127102934>Nobody in real life is listening to FUNMainly because Fun had no songs anyone could name.
>>127102825i appreciated the effort
>>127102984You don't understand what irony is. You're probably too retarded too haha. I'm nit being fecietous at all. Cannot imagine how badly you must smell and how much you must weigh. No nobody irl knows who FUN we're except extreme Taykor Swift Fans and they only know because her producer was the singer. That's it. They're an absolute side note. Future male loneliness victim detected. New England is in fact not the Midwest. I'm not trying to be a sick saying that but it just isn't.
>>127103003Oh yeah for sure. They just tried to sound like other greater bands 3vej if they're still bands I don't like personall7. It's exclusively incelshit now muchlike the monkees is for the 60s or Zappa but far less let's be honest creative or recognizable to those in the know.
Jack Antonoff deserves to be burned alive for popularizing 808 beats on pop songs.
>>127103003They're decent if you actually like Stomp Clap Hey but they tell not the lumineers. They're jot someone who could ever possibly still sell tickets. They left no impact on the landscape. Delusional incels like feeling they did but they didn't.
>>127102881>>127102806Oh well at least 50s slop had no Autotune or 808 hi hats on it.
>>127103022Yeah but you only know him because you're a Taylor swift fan. And the rest of the members never went on to do anything noteworthy. And 808s are something he "stole from black music". Get the picture? They to this day are second fiddle.
>>127102974same except for one song: brain damage. yet i loathe their infantile whining about politics. i hate bush, no i hate trump, no i hate
As for Autotune that was really Kanye who spammed that to death.
BABY I'M PREYING ON YOU TONIGHT
JUST LIKE ANIMALS, ANIMALS
>>127102881>>127102788but you know these ladies were both of German heritage and German culture inherently celebrates mediocrity and conformity
>>127103045>>127102974yeh but we all had their CDs when we were 16
>>127099102Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. โ
I never want to let you down or have you go, it's
better off this way... Early 2000s was when music peaked imho, it's been going down hill ever since 2008/imagine dragons/taylor etc... by then, every music style that exists today, except AI, and some obscure shit, had already been developed.
>>127103075funny how as late as 2012 you could still get away with cockrock shit like this song
>>127102972Aim and Ignite is a good album.
>>127103097I think the last year to have a good Billboard was 2002 because of that burst of post-9/11 energy but that was it. But that was a fluke because 2001 had been a very bland year overall.
>>127103093Don't remind me, except for me I had all their songs on my iPod that I illegally downloaded from Limewire
>>127103093So we all had Eminem's CDs too but we need not remember that.
>>127103097Which is because you can't get laid or because that's what your dad liked when you were 7? Because more people could recognize Jimi Hendrix. That being said it's not as dad or incelly as 2010s music fans haha. They just pretend FUN was important because pretending that makes them feel like they were included basically. Feels "normaller" to pretend dubstep or fun are fondly remembered. Realistically only some small handful of rap albums and Stomp Clap Hey are. But 4chan "music" discussion people won't yk except that. 2000s were also dogshit though. Some nu metal is cool that's about it.
>>127103105I'm sure you feel this way. They're ok at best though.
>Band Name is FUN >Will only ever be remembered possibly by some right wing media because of "male loneliness epedemic" related suicidesNow that's what irony is. I guess DIVORCE or FUNKO probably wouldn't have sold aswell thoughbeit.
Should have made it "IMMN SO LONELY...GET A GUUUUUN" or something. Then FUNs fanbase would actually relate to it. But I guess that would also shatter the illusion somewhat for many of you.
Besides, Taylor Swift's only decent albums were released prior to January 1, 2010 anyway.
>>127102972Actually, it's because The Format was from Arizona and so am I, growing up listening to it. That Some Nights album sucked ass, though.
>>127103163unless you're one of those autists who believe 2010 was in fact the last year of the 2000s
But yeah it's now. The people pretending otherwise are just trying too hard to fit in. The people who like 2010s music aswell are just failed normies. It won't get you a crumb of pussy so you can stop now. I gave you permission.
>>127103174Oh ok fair enough dude. I like some stomp Clap Hey too tbf. Yk shit happens.
>>127103180It kind of was. I mean 2000 also still felt like the 90s. Clinton was president planes had not yet flown into skyscrapers everything was chill laid back end of history etc.
>>127103163Sure but don't tell me fun we're remotely historically or culturally important if you believe this lol. Because it's only a side note to her.
>>127103181ie. they're Fantano and delude themselves into thinking TPAB actually meant anything
>>127103205It did but it's the outlier. And even then it's like a 90s rerun to some extent.
>>127103205watered down trash and everything it did was done better by Rakeem and KRS One 20 or more years before
I think it's pretty much unanimous that the 2010s was the worst decade for music. 90s was the peak of alternative rock and also had soul (as in the music genre, 90s soul and R&B are absolute peak) and the 2000s also had some solid memorable pop punk and dare I say even good pop rock. 2010s just don't have a lot going for it. And this decade is only half-over so it's hard to generalize it but so far even this decade feels more substantial.
>>127103227Yeah this. It's a contrarian incel take meant to make people feel included. Saying now is "the best" is just failed normie shit though. But saying the 90s was the worst is also "49 year old virgin trying to feel included". Barely a music discussion to be had here.
>>127103227>and the 2000s also had some solid memorable pop punk and dare I say even good pop rockIt absolutely got a lot worse in the second half of the decade the global economic meltdown really did a number on everything.
>>127103254All the way back to the 1930s every decade of music has had a good half and a shitty half (maybe the 70s was an exception?)
>>127103143>nu metal Not music. I was quoting "I'm not okay" :-/ . My favorite albums are from this period, but objectively speaking, it was much better than the shitpop that would dominate later on, Thunder by ID, High Hopes by panic!, Lady Gaga, the mumble rapping of the 2010s etc... with virtually nothing notable developed for 20~years.
>>127103254Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z, and American Boy by Estelle and Kanye are peak 2008 recession-core
for me the 2010s was jerking off to porn on tumblr, Syrian civil war generals on pol, and listening to vaporwave, future funk, smooth jazz, city pop mixes.
i hattttted that rock was killed off and never had any interest in the poptimist milieu of "you can only listen to pop and pop rap now"
2010s mostly sucked, it was a terrible time if you didnt like mumble niggs and pop sluts, but the 2020s has one upped the 2010s by being an even more bland version of it.
2020s suck and if you like shit like Sabrina carpenter, olivia rodrigo, morgan wallen, jelly roll, end yourself
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End_Hot_100_singles_of_2002
Other than maybe #3 many of these were good or memorable songs which is why I said it was the last year to have a strong Billboard.

more like butt rock was at its absolute pinnacle in the 50s-70s.
There were bumper stickers of his band saying they sucked. It was like.... you're not listening to music for your educational level you're listening to the younger failures, who are want to be's and they not only know what they are, but people are buying these fucking cds. to this day, some people still get mad when you talk about Fred Mac. I think he was in fast or furious he played the black guy who died first. I think his gimmick was he would yell, "suffering succotash" or some stupid shit like that. He would just yell that instead of "biatch" like snoop dogg" Vanilla ice got off easy compared to him. Definitely not the next beastie boys like he though he was but an extreme embarrassment like 311
