Most get a leveler or at least a welder's straightedge bar because you need a... straight edge. The wood might be warped but you can still try.

i'm sick of the sound i'm getting outta my mustang. I'm gonna swap in some humbuckers i have lying round from some old les paul.

I'm not gonna cut the pickup holes though, i'm making a cheap generic plate out of perspex.

my question for /gg/ is, red or clear perspex or aluminium i guess?

a jam session was held here tonight. It was fun. I didnt play my guitar much but my friend liked my JM. Went on a gear run for my birthday and got a distortion pedal and a synth pedal. I like them both so probably my last bass pedal purchases for a while. Don't need anymore guitar pedals until I can play it. I want to get better at guitar so bad. More practice very excited for it.

I play music like 30 minutes a day but I think it really just depends on the kind of person you are. Some people benefit from prolonged periods of intense focus others need to assimilate more gradually. I get a lot out of my incremental improvements day to day doing 30 minutes or so. I also play like 7 other instruments and have a bunch of other hobbies, so it feels natural for me to just flit around. Other people are probably more singular.

I got stuck learning lefty, genetically and memetically, so they're fucking impossible to come by physically.
That being said, how much different do they feel to play? I know finger-style is vastly different between the two, what should I prioritize learning if I want to expand my capability beyond basic pick-playing? Any song recommendations for someone with experience learning this?

they're difficult to turn, but also, they turn the string very slowly. so they never get accidentally bumped, and you never overshoot. Improvising is a cool skill but if you want to get paid to play music, it's not really that important. Most people want to hear the songs they like, not some 10 minute improvised guitar solo. Maybe that'll work for your side project but it's not going to get you bookings.

you really do have to practice at 100% volume to not sound like shit at 100% volume. i do it with a very long guitar cable, and standing outside the house in the back yard, and slowly getting closer to the 300 watts of tube power, one dozen six L six tube. i have to make adjustments by turning the guitar off and walking in and then walking out again before turning it up.

it's just a different creature to control a legit 100 watt tube amp that is full on rocking. the thing is a safety hazard first of all and just because it sounds right with the master at 10% doesn't mean it'll sound like 'that but louder' at 100%, so you kind of have to dial it in at dangerous volumes, and then just live with it at lower volumes as best you can.

but once you get the hang of it there's literally no feeling in the world like hundreds of watts of overdriven tube and eight speakers that feel like an earthquake under your feet. there's a visceral painful detail when you're drowning in volume.

that's the thing about buying nice gear though, eventually it forces you out of the poorfag habit of "filling the void" with another pedal or cheap guitar. if you have any will power whatsoever you just end up with better financial habits.

jazz is literally a secret club, you never hear people who play jazz explaining what theyre doing, they always talk about their music in terms of emotion

even if you read jazz books they just expect you to learn jazz standards and learn by rote by copying the best recordings of those standards. no one will really tell you what theyre doing unless you look really hard for obscure jazz mid level jazz books where they accidentally explain what theyre actually doing
