Peter: But since we're all gonna die, there's one more secret I feel I have to share with you. I did not care for The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
Lois: What?
Peter: Did not care for The Lamb.
Chris: How can you even say that, dad?
Peter: Didn't like it.
Lois: Peter, it's so good! It's like the perfect prog album!
Peter: This is what everyone always said. Whenever they say...
Chris: Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, I mean you never see--STEVE HACKETT!
Peter: Fine. Fine. Fine guitarist, did not like the album.
Brian: Why not?
Peter: Did not...couldn't get into it.
Lois: Explain yourself. What didn't you like about it?
Peter: It insists upon itself, Lois.
Lois: What?
Peter: It insists upon itself.
Lois: What does that even mean?
Chris: Because it has a valid point to make, it's insisted!
Peter: It takes forever getting in; you spend like six and a half hours... You know, I can't get through, I've never even finished the album. I've never listened to disc two.
Chris: You've never heard disc two?!
Stewie: How can you say you don't like it if you haven't even given it a chance?
Lois: I agree with Stewie. It's not really fair.
Chris: It's outrageous.
Peter: I have tried on three separate occasions to get through it, and I get to the part where he's singing something about carpet crawlers--
Lois: Yeah, it's a great song. I love that song.
Peter: I have no idea what he's singing about. It's like he's singing a different... You know, that's where I lose interest in it.
Chris: He's singing in metaphor!
Lois: The lyrics he's singing is a language of subtlety; it's something you don't understand.
Peter: I love Bankstatement. That is my answer to that statement.
Lois: Exactly.
Peter: Well, there you go.
Lois: Whatever.
Chris: I like that album, too.

Apart from Frame by Frame and Discipline, the album is pretty lackluster and contains material that is a far cry from the band's origins and style. It seems like a pitiful attempt to keep the band afloat and relevant in the 80s new wave scene, but it just falls flat on its face for me.

Are you people serious? Disc 2 is pretty much all I listen to. Disc 1 is the (largely) forgettable half of that album. Riding the Scree and Lilywhite Lilith are the only dips in quality on disc 2. If it went Slippermen > Ravine > Light Dies Down > Rapids > It then I couldn't imagine a more perfect ending to the album.

Jon Anderson > Peter Gabriel
Chris Squire > Mike Rutherford
Steve Howe > Steve Hackett
Rick Wakeman (Patrick Moraz too) > Tony Banks
Bill Brufford (Alan White too) > Phil Collins

also
The Yes Album > Nursery Crime
Fragile > Foxtrot
Close to the Edge > Selling England by the Pound
Tales from Topographic Oceans > The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Relayer > A Trick of the Tail
Going for the One > Wind and Wuthering

in conclusion Yes > Genesis
the only thing Genesis has going for them is that their pop era is superior
