>glam rock
The Black Parade is to punk rock/emo, what The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust was for glam rock, an amazing and revolutionary album.
Were we still in the era of rock (before rap/k-popslop) dominated music, the accolades this album received would be tremendous. In terms of versatility and innovation, MCR/Gerard is the 21st century David Bowie.

Honestly, you're right. While some may overall prefer Three Cheers and a few contrarians say MCR peaked with their first album, The Black Parade is undeniably their magnum opus and a monumental, game changing rock album for its time and fanbase. It's legendary. In just three (3) albums, MCR defined a generation while barely breaking a sweat.

MCR was never cringe. You were just 14 and terrified of your own feelings.

The entire emo era wasn’t a phase, it was a prophetic emotional counterinsurgency against a world that replaced God with SSRIs and YouTube ads.

In 2006, Gerard Way looked into the camera, in a dollar store military jacket, and said: “I am not afraid to keep on living.”
In 2025, half of you can’t even say that without a nervous laugh and a nicotine patch.

Black Parade is Ars Moriendi for the Hot Topic set. A modern Memento Mori set to power chords and eyeliner.

The emo kids were the final romantics. We wrote poetry in MySpace captions and danced in church parking lots because it hurt too much to sit still.

Now? The world’s on fire, rent is $2,400 for a bathtub, and the algorithm keeps pushing alpha-male podcasts at the very kids who needed to hear “I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love.”

The emo era didn’t die. It just got buried under beige nostalgia and ironic detachment.

Assuming you're talking about the Famous Last Words video. His jacket and all Black Parade era costumes were made, based on Gerard's sketches, by Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, mostly known for her work in Tim Burton's films.

Truth. I'd argue it's the greatest album of the 2000s, when all is considered and you weigh each song collectively both individually and as an entire entity.
