BAND FOR BAND THREAD
loveless vs Souvlaki
>1st track (only shallow > alison)
1 - 0
>2nd track (loomer < machine gun)
1 - 1
>3rd track (touched < 40 days)
1 - 2
>4th track (to here knows when < sing)
1 - 3
>5th track (when you sleep > here she comes)
2 - 3
>6th track (i only said < souvlaki space station)
2 - 4
>7th track (come in alone = when the sun hits)
EXTREMELY tough call, for me, it's a draw.
3 - 5
>8th track (sometimes > altogether)
4 - 5
>9th track (blown a wish > melon yellow)
5 - 5
>10th track (what you want < dagger)
5 - 6, probably the most controversial one.
>11th track (soon)
even though SOVLaki has no more songs, Soon still deserves to score one point for Loveless chads.

FINAL SCORE: 6 - 6
A draw, just as expected for kino of this category.

You are absolutely correct on 10 being the most controversial, as I think what you want is the better song, but very close. I would switch around alison and only shallow though.

1. For me, Dagger is the perfect ending track, maybe this influenced my decision.
2. Alison is a superb song, it's just that Only Shallow is more impactful and memorable, possibly among the best opening tracks of all time. Alison feels rather like a really nice track, and that's it.

Valid. I personally skew towards Souvlaki more, partially due to the ex I had when I was listening to them a lot. Whilst Only Shallow is a great opener and is a perfect essence of what shoegaze is all about, Alison always made me feel a lot more emotions and brings back bittersweet memories, which fits the sound of the song very well.

Nice thread, no more brother wars! But for me, what you want is the superior track

Honestly, I'm glad to read that. Recently, /mu/ has been pretty dismissive of Souvlaki for some reason. It's not like the usual bait, but as if loveless was the epitome of shoegaze to the point where everything else just couldn't fit within the genre.
And for the record, regardless of loveless being the paragon of shoegaze or not, you just cannot deny Souvlaki's mastery.
For me, both are beautiful approaches to the same sound/genre. I would include HoLV too, forming the dreamgaze trifecta.
>loveless (rawness, & a bit more dancy than the rest)
>souvlaki (feels-focused, especially from a rather melancholic tone)
>heaven or las vegas (sweet melodies, more curated than the rest)

>As the sun hits, she'll be waiting
>With her cool things and her heaven
>Hey, hey lover, you're still burning
>You're his song, yeah (hey, hey)
what did they mean by that?
