>>127123367what does it sound like? a 90, or a bucker?
Two weeks since I got this Mustang, honeymoon phase still hasnโt even begun to fade away. Itโs still been the only guitar Iโve been playing
>>127123603I'm struggling to bond with a HB equipped Strat I bought. But I sort of need one around.
look at how much tone is in there
>>127123665there's so much it's bulged the sides trying to get out
What does your guitar smell like?
>>127123679coco butter, black and milds, and foot powder
with channel gain at 3 and the guitars pickup at 10, the amp sounds like shit. if i turn the gain to 10 and the guitar to 3 so the loudness is the same, it sounds fucking amazing and my guitar literally physically feels different.
this is a master volume amp, and how loud the amp is has no effect on the tone. only the balance between pickup and input gain. hi pickup and low vol sounds like shit. hi vol and low pickup is sex. neither are breaking up this is all inside clean headroom.
pic related is a visualization of the guitar tech egregore i talk to about these things. hes like my oprah

the fact that the mesa 5ar4 rectifier i took out has 5 pins and the "compatible" tube i got on amazon has 4 pins isn't gonna stop me from putting it into my amp and turning it on to see if it sounds good. it is larger as you can see which is probably why it does not need 5 pins.
>>127123367All the bucker is there for is to cancel out the hum.
It produces no sound.
>>127123825RIP to his amp anons....

A bit of Kaki King I worked out while playing around with my new MIG 50. Kinda makes me want to into lap steel..
i took the metal bar off the back of the amp, still can't fit this big ass rectifier in. so i'm going to cut a hole in the bottom of my mesa boogie.
>>127123945Do those have a built in holy grail verb? I think their little SS combo does.
Playing is nice.
Tubes are warming up a lot faster now.
>>127123986ai slop gross. post real gear.
>>127123966Thanks. Nope, zero effects, just channels 1/2 and treble/middle/bass/presence. Iโm running a Y cable so I can use channels 1+2 simultaneously which sounds really good. Very bare bones but in the best way possible because it sounds great and also makes for a great amp for a busy pedal board.
>>127124079Same with my amp. No reverb, nothing. But takes pedals well.
>>127124130I was all set to go with a DSL100HR but it went out of stock with the cabinet deal so I ended up losing patience and going with the MIG. Very glad it worked out that way, channel one is pretty much a Bassman sound and channel 2 is a Marshall JTM/Plexi inspired. Running them together and balancing with the respective volume knobs makes for a pretty wide range of sounds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2xRkCN9JYU
I cant believe he said the first line with a straight face. This guy is so fucking
>>127124212Funny you mention that, since the DSL's reverb sucks. You'd end up getting another reverb, I'd bet. But everything else is cool about it. It's "Metallica" type distortion capable. But you can get there with pedals anyways.
>>127123632Nah if you donโt bond with it let it go. Just get a regular old HH guitar along with a regular old Strat. If you still canโt bond with one sell it and stick to the other. HSS Strats are cool and super versatile but Iโve never been able to bond with one either
>>127124239firefly... wasn't this a shitty amazon brand like 5 years ago? the name sounds familiar

>>127124248Yeah, everything about it is cool on paper. Even has a LSR nut, so a lot more stable than the regular Strat. But I don't know..
i'm not gonna cut a hole in my mesa boogie, i'm just gonna take the amp out of the wooden box, obviously.

I haven't owned a fender yet but the fret finish and roasted maple neck is pushing me over the edge.
However, I think a guy in the last thread said he just bought an eart strandberg clone and they switched from alnico to ceramics so I'm worried about the TONE.

Conceived as the 25th Anniversary Tribute to the original Mark I, the Heartbreaker is a two channel / five mode, footswitchable rendering of that evolutionary milestone. The channels - Love and Lust, trace the two faces of rock-and-roll back to their amplified roots celebrating the stylistic yin and yang that was taking shape simultaneously on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Love embodies all the black-face magic of yesteryear and can be switched between three distinct regions of gain ranging from bubbly, chiming clean, up through medium gain blues - all the way to the liquid, singing voice of the fabled Mark I's lead channel... the world's first high gain performance.
The Lust channel flashes an enticing blend of harmonically lush sounds across two diverse modes that serve it up any style. From the saucy howl of a 4x10 Tweed to a teasing plexi purr - Lust toys with the fine line between clean and dirty with sinful sincerity. Both channels sport selectable voicing options as well as individual Reverb and Presence controls.
>>127124936i hate all 3 but detroit has to be at the bottom of that list
>>127124958The Squiers do look good.
the reverb is useless. the Mark 1 circuit on Love is twice as loud. period, under any corcumstance. like you could have every knob at 10 and when you click the mark 1 button, the amp still becomes twice as loud. i think its impossible to simultaniously get the two channels balanced with ch1 as mk1 and ch2 as tweed. but im willing to spend another five more weeks and more money than the amp is worth to make it work. i think the 6v6 will get me there. then i have to find someone that answers their ohone to do a full refurb cuz all the pots short out intermittently if you touch them wrong.

The Squier Stratocaster is a pathetic excuse for a guitar. With its flimsy construction, shoddy electronics, and laughable attempt at a Fender headstock, this instrument is nothing more than a cheap import masquerading as the real deal. The tone is thin and lifeless, the frets are uneven, and the hardware feels like it was made from recycled soda cans. If you're looking for a guitar that will make you feel like a true musician, look elsewhere. This Squier is a sad reminder that sometimes, you get what you pay for - and in this case, you're paying for disappointment.
Now hold on there, hotshot. Thatโs mighty spicy language for a piece of wood with strings on it.
Look Iโve played a Squier Strat through a busted Crate amp in a Wendyโs parking lot at 3am and made two grown men cry. One of 'em was me.
You donโt need no boutique tonewood or hand-wired wizard box to feel something, buckaroo.

>>127127180yeah sometimes it's hard to see the logic behind practicing your timing at something painfully slow like 40 bpm but it magnifies your mistakes. some things only need to be maintained and i cut out thinks like techniques i genuinely wasn't interested in and genres i don't want to play and put the extra time and energy towards more important stuff. thankfully it's not like going to the gym and you can see musical progress in a few days instead of 6 months
I used to jack lumber. I remember one gig, foreman shows up to my homestead at 5am in a quad cab and honks. I follow him in my quad cab to the site. The sun was just coming up and I was gassing up my rig when I saw it... poplar
"Yeah... no." I said as I secured my teals in the bed of my truck. "You didn't tell me you were a piece of shit. I don't work with poplar, my daddy didn't raise a faggot."
>>127127244Now Iโm gonna stop you right there, partner. You talkinโ โbout lumber like it owes you money, and worse youโre tossinโ around ugliness like itโs seasoning. First off poplarโs fine wood. Might not be flashy, but itโs got work ethic. Like a quiet cousin who helps you move without being asked. Secondly and you better listen up, slick. Ainโt no place in a manโs mouth for slurs like that. My daddy raised me to treat folks right. Not โcause of who they love or what wood they cut, but โcause respectโs cheaper than hate and lasts longer too. If the worst thing you can say about a tree, or a person is that they ainโt what youโre used to, maybe itโs time to take a walk in the woods and rethink some things. Now if youโre done puffinโ your chest, Iโll be over here strumminโ a love song on a poplar ukulele with three strings and a whole lot more heart than that mess you just said.

How much is intonation affected by changing the tuning half a step? >>127128706These guitars need body bindings to complete the fancy looks
>>127123732isn't that because the guitar volume pot rolls off the highs disproportionately so you get warmer toans at lower volumes

>>127128291Kinda depends on the guitar and string gauge. Just check it and tweak as needed. Itโs pretty simple, make minor adjustments
>intonation at fret 12 fine
>intonation at 14 and up all fucked
what's the play here
>>127128816Buy a new guitar
>>127128407File/buff the saddle slots minimally but enough to hopefully remedy the issue. Or just get a new bridge. Pretty sure my JM tunomatic has polymer in the slots, Iโll check that out and post pics if so
>>127128816All I can suggest is make the slightest adjustments to bridge saddles (if you even can)...made you'll stumble on the sweet spot. If it's not the saddles, I can't fathom what the hell causes that.
>>127128879maybe you stumble*
bought a new pedal that I'll keep in a plastic crate under the bed with all the others
maybe I'll even use it sometimes

i forgot to get a hole saw to cut my amp up with. have to go back.

I can't kill the GAS I have for a Super-Sonic.
Who's the anon with the Super-Sonic amp here? What are the downsides so you can talk me out of it?
>>127129212you should get one bro trust me
>>127128806It'd be LP with 11-48/50/52 strings, still haven't decided on that. But I'd want to play all the E at stuff like Guns, Lizzy and what not on it but at the same time I'd want to play E standard stuff too. Also I record mostly in standard as well so I imagine I'd be better to set up for that. If the intonation doesn't get too screwy when tuned down then it's okay, I wouldn't wanna mess with it every time I wanna play in different tuning.
>>127129231A basic setup will allow to comfortably do Eb and E and 11-48 or 10-46 if you want later. Half step tuning isn't going to be drastic. I do it all the time.
>>127129212the fender super-sonic amp is a piece of shit. oh cool a 22 watt fender that's supposed to be clean? with 3 tubes? yeah it's a fuckin modeling amp for 1500 dollars. you could get a twin, a jcm800, a bassman or tweed, a vox, a mesa boogie for that price. something that matters and will be worth 90% of what you paid for it in 5 years rather than 20% in 2 weeks because zero people know or care or want a super-sonic because it is an amp with no character or practical purpose. it's completely disconnected from any of the circuits that actually sound good of which there are a limited number and which there are like 4 groups developing along two different philosophies of preamps. it's really slop.
>>127129195>you will never be fancyreplacing wood with plastic never seemed all that fancy to me. if anything they're removing toan with the wood they take out
>>127129247I don't want a twin or jcm800. As cool as they are. Sonic isn't just a clean amp though. It's got Bassman and Vibrolux circuits. And then a high-ish gain preamp. I don't know about any others, but you are right, the price is steep. Thanks.
>>127129283I mean, the twin and jcm are too much amp for my uses. Would like a Deluxe sized combo, but the sonic seems to offer a bit more.
>>127129283just get a vibrolux or a bassman then, trust me
>>127129283 how long have you owned a bassman that you want additional circuits to achieve what?
>>127129299are they? broke working musicians and pros alike have been using twins and jcm's in bedrooms, studios, practice closets, etc. for decades. yeah bigloud is a different instrument than parlor level but the amps sound good at both levels. 'too much amp' is not much of a thing any of the primitive fenders will serve you well
>>127129301You've dampered the GAS for now. Something to think about.
>>127129322>how long have you owned a bassman that you want additional circuits to achieve what?I don't have a bassman. But the second vibrolux channel would be different enough if that's what it is. They're usually janglier.
>>127129337bruh the supersonic is *not* gonna sound like a bassman or a vibrolux. those amps sound magical. the supersonic will not sound or feel magical. it will have a few facsimiles of the sound and feel you actually want. and the real thing is like the same price and is a known quantity, an established and understood tone machine, rather than some H1B indian designed mass market product that comes with a massive aura debuff
>>127129267>add more wood to sharpen edges for binding>take out some of the extra wood to add bindingit all evens out the toan
>>127129365Fair enough. One other reason it appealed to me over vintage specs is it has a loop. And I think a non-Indian actually designed it. lol. Or at least partly. Bruce Zinky did the original Pro-Sonics that that high gain is from.
I sort of wish I still had the little Rectoverb I used to own. It accomplished bright/fat/high gain itself in a little package.
>>127129246Good to know, thanks. I'll have it setup for standard then tune down when I need to.

>>127129231>he doesn't have dedicated guitars for each tuning
>>127128506Real niggas got that Boogie
>>127129426It might be worth worrying about if you were using a Strat and wanted perfect glide for trem use. Never know if 11s get "microscopically" slowed on a nut specced for 10s. But you're on a LP. It's not gonna matter.
>>127129407i dunno, i'd demo it against the real thing with the same guitar and be really honest if any number of features add up to the sound of one of the primitive amps.
if you have effects you really want to use you can have an effects loop installed in them anywhere or get a kit yourself. it's not uncommon to use two black panel combos in stereo like that.
you could probably get two kits to build your own blackface fender with fx loops for the price of a super-sonic
>>127123679my 12 string still has that sour smell of treated wood even though I got it new 13 years ago, because I live in an arid place (the prairies of Leafistan) and have to keep it in its case with Humidipaks to stop it from shitting itself to death
>>127129577My D-18 still has that Martin factory smell. Maybe because it's in the case often when not played.
Kind of a cedar and vanilla mix with a hint of nitro.
i think it would be cool to route a 1978 fender strat like pic related for a bridge humbucker. a Van Halen frankenstrat that is actually a fender and from 1978
>>127129634Eddie's Frankenstein also used a custom neck with a Gibson (12") radius. That's the other thing that set it apart besides the humbucker. I think all the reissues use the compound radius same as his Wolfgangs.
>>127129650a lot of 70s strats have been refretted with jumbo frets. and every time you refret the fretboard gets a little flatter.
>>127129577Acoustic guitars seem to smell a lot, electrics not really unless you open the back plate or something
>>127128407Get some roller saddles.
>>127129434That's the goal. Someday.
>>127129451Yeah trems add their own sets of problems with tuning. I'll be happy as long as I can tune down half a step and it still sounds good.
theyre sick in the head, they forgot that im him.
Any strap suggestions for this? I already have a black leather strap with fake bullets. I asked /fa/ but it's a slow board as fuck.
