What exactly is the purpose of a music critic? I can understand one in other mediums such as film, tv, video games, books etc. People want to know if it’s worth their time and money to bother with them. But while a game is $60 and maybe like 20 hours of time, music is essentially free and maybe an hour at most. A movie at the cinema costs the ticket and takes time you have to commit. Music can be consumed passively while you do other things. Why do I need some bald hipster telling me if it’s worth listening to when I could just listen to it and decide for myself?
