Honestly, if you consider it objectively and from a weighted, completely component-based perspective, do you agree it was the greatest album of the 2000s?

>be me, 14
>booting up windows
>play Ninja Tuna because i thought the cover art was funny
>expecting joke beats and quirky stuff
>get hit with one of the most dopamine-inducing downtempo records of the 2000s
>mfw I’m still listening to it like 15 years later

Seriously, Ninja Tuna is one of those weird albums that shouldn’t work as well as it does. But it slaps. It’s goofy, yeah, but never insincere. There’s an earnest joy in every track that makes it impossible to hate.

People always call it background music, but that’s just because it doesn’t scream for attention. It’s comfy. Like the audio equivalent of putting on clean socks fresh out of the dryer. You don’t brag about it but you’d notice if it were gone.

Also, the production is tight. Every bassline is bouncy, every drum has this satisfyingly crunchy texture like he chopped the beat on a toaster. He’s not trying to flex technical wizardry like Squarepusher or go full-blown weed-fueled psyjazz like Flying Lotus. Scruff just wants you to sip your tea, nod your head, and maybe chuckle at the cartoon whale.

Holy fuck, this album cover gives me so much nostalgia. Windows 7 is the peak of technology.

No, as well-produced as it is, this kind of thing has aged extremely badly, with all the twee samples
Also nobody is into breakbeats anymore

Yeah, I fondly remember when I first got Win7 in 2010 after my XP install shit the bed, and I browser the pre-shipped tunes and images, and found the song to be engaging, but didn't follow with more. I think I'll give his album a try after my hyperautism gaming OST phase goes away.

How did Ninja Tune (the label) even go from kino like this to nothing but posercore? What's funny is that Mr. Scruff was pretty mediocre at the time, the lineup used to be that stacked.

Honeydew is his best track, Keep It Unreal is his best album. Windows 7 babies need not apply.
