I use to hate yellow, especially when I was a kid. I don't know what happened.

There ain't many color options. Just purple/black, blue/black, yellow/black, red/black and full black. I like the contrast between yellow and black.

I've sold my guitars and amps and was in bands and now I wanna get back into it. I used to write music using a program called tabit, but apparently people use guitar pro now? What is that like? If I have headphones and a macbook air am I able to use guitar pro without having to buy a practice amp? I live in an apartment when I used to live in a house.

When buying a first guitar again, how do you know which to one you should buy? Should I find others who want to start a band or project, and buy the best guitar within my budget that would fit for the genre we decide on? Or should I not rely on others and seriously do some soul searching on what kind of music I want to play or practice? I need advice for starting up music again.

well i think everything is going to start with deciding what you want to play and practice first. then the guitar will come from that decision and then you can start thinking about everything else from there your music tastes might even change as you progress on your instrument

Fender makes so many sigs now because they want to promote rock and especially new artists.
Same with, say, Marshall making a fancy music studio or Gibson making a record label.
It makes sense now. Instrument companies are the last men standing with rock diminishing. Can you even think of record labels that give a shit? The instrument guys have a lot of non-rock musicians to not die off themselves, but they don't want rock to die.

It's just a general term. I mean spotify too. The whole shebang. They've mostly moved on.
The only big entities propping up rock now are instrument makers. So it makes sense to me that they're getting a little more involved in it's distribution and marketing.

It's tough. My tastes have matured a bit but I still like cool sounding things. I just doesn't have to sound cool for the entire song, and now I prefer more variation and unpredictability.

Like if you want to write in standard tuning you're going to be looking at certain types of guitars. If you want to write in drop d, c, b, you're going to be looking at different types than the standard ones. Then drop a and lower and you'll probably be looking at certain guitars that involve more than six strings. I just have to figure things out on how I want to get back into music. It's hard to do it alone.

How much of a difference does bolt on vs set vs neck through really make? To me bolt on seems the smartest because you can just replace the neck should you need to instead of needing to do a whole bunch of work to fix or replace a neck.

Some may argue a set neck has a better tone, but I can't tell if it's true. I suppose you can get better fret access from a set neck's carve a typical Fender like bolt on, but it never bothered me.

than a typical Fender bolt-on*
Hasn't bothered many for that matter. Shredders used bolt ons almost exclusively and took the upper frets to their limit. But I think Nuno was one of the first to start messing with the carve and make a bolt on carve more egonomic too. Now that's common even on Fenders (Ultras).

Reminder that TV Yellow got its name in a design meeting at Gibson, when Ted McCarty said he was nervous about the guitar company's first appearances on TV and Ray Butts, the company's head engineer and with whom McCarty had been feuding, replied "What are you, yellow?"
Yellow is American slang for being cowardly, or fearful. The name stuck, and the finish option is still being produced to this day.

In a lot of cases, the standby switch actually runs the risk of shortening tube life by slapping them with HT instantaneously rather than letting them warm up naturally. They're a vestigial feature from earlier non-MI circuit applications, and are pretty much unnecessary (especially if you have a tube rectifier), but they're tradition at this point so you have to include one or people freak out.

It's nice playing in a key where all open strings are contained within said key. You can do 1 string per finger chords and always be able to play the open strings if you want to. Even when soloing, knowing you can always rhythmically strum the open notes while playing a lead within that. When using hammer on pull of technique while playing the chords, you can blur the line between soloing and chords from multiple angles.

For rock/metal type of sounds you need the bridge pickup for 80-90% of the time. You can get along with only using the bridge pickup but sometimes it is nice to use the neck pickup during solos.
For jazz its like reverse. You basically only need the neck pickup but if you want to experiment you can play the bridge pickup also.

Lets say you want to play Bark at the Moon (RIP OZZY FR FR).
You would want to practice alternate picking, D minor, palm muting, etc.

Lets get a little more general, lets say you want to learn a genre. Well, every genre has a toolkit and a bunch of common licks. You would want to practice the toolkit of the genre, if you play country consider fingerpicking, travis picking, chicken picking, excellent left hand and right hand muting, if you want to play metal consider alternate picking, economy picking, sweep picking, tremolo picking, legato runs, minor scales etc.

For all the silly lifestyle stuff, they've done a good job of still staying in the guitar space. So I'm not going to hate. It'd be different if they blew guitars off completely. They've kind of pivoted from the big stack days to the Studio models. And these pedals are cool too.

That's probably a good thing. Guitarists alone probably weren't going to keep them alive, at least not without downsizing. But now guitarists can still have Marshall around, while everyone gets other shit and props up the company up.
Anderton's recent factory tour is pretty interesting. He makes note of how 10 years ago it felt a bit depressing and quiet. But now it's bustling and they're making shittons of amps. So something must've worked out.
