The song Black Sabbath from the S/T album released in in 1970 contains the blue prints for every niche genre that sprang up later, utilizing the tritone interval, which wasn't used in any blues based music.

Metal did shed its blues influence over time but even there Black Sabbath influenced thrash (yes, Symptom of the Universe's main riff is proto-thrash).
It was mainly punk influence that bled away the blues influence.
>Blues rock + horror movies = Heavy Metal
>Heavy Metal + Punk = Hardcore Punk
>Hardcore Punk + Heavy Metal = Thrash Metal
>Thrash Metal + Satanism = Black Metal
>Thrash Metal + Zombie movies = Death Metal
>Death Metal + Hardcore Punk = Grindcore
>Grindcore + Death Metal = Goregrind, Deathgrind
etc
they just keep back crossing over and over.

There's blues in death and thrash, it's just harder to hear it because of the speed and arrangement. Sometimes it's very explicit though, in riff changes and guitar solos.

Stoner Metal is an offshoot of Doom Metal
I guess in my influences I forgot to include Psychedelic Rock but yeah
Blues Rock + Psychedelic Rock + Horror Movies
that's Black Sabbath's DNA, and where Doom Metal comes from, Stoner Rock is just Doom Metal with extra Psychedelic Rock influence.

Yes but those added chromatic notes are rarely played by blues musicians. Play the A aeolian scale on an instrument, and it'll sound like the spot in between traditional blues based rock and metal inspired by classical music.

One of my greatest regrets in life is that I never developed a proper ear for music as a kid. Listened to a lot of music like any other idiot, but never got into playing it or learning the theory behind it.
Now I can just say shit like "X is kinda similar to Y", but it would be so cool to be able understand why exactly.

I'm not great at it either, and despite playing guitar since I was 12, I didn't go down the music theory rabbit hole. I only know enough to play the kind of music that I was interested in, which was metal and rock, my heroes being Blackmore, Rhoads, Malmsteen, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, and Jeff Loomis. ALS is the scariest fucking disease.
was just talking in a different thread yesterday about Bruce Willis no longer being able to talk and read and people asked if there was anything scarier than Dementia.
Being consciously aware trapped in a body that doesn't work.. that's hell on Earth.

Blizzard of Ozz >> No More Tears => No Rest For The Wicked > Ultimate Sin > Diaries of a Madman > Bark at the Moon (didn't listen to the rest)
Randy Rhoads was a guitar genius, though I'll say Diaries is a weird album, more like B sides. Zakk Wylde is a meme guitaristโ€ฆ but he was just fun and had really catchy songs with good riffs. Just turn your brain off and enjoy. Jake E Lee was good and underrated, but he's neither "fun" nor "genius", a bit closer to generic shred guitarists of the 80s, so he just doesn't stand out so much.

Help me find a band /metal/. This band was dropped as a recommendation by some anon here a long time ago and I randomly remembered it after many years. I did listen to the band back in the day but I've since forgotten the name and I'd like to find it again.

The band was described as experimental doom metal if I remember correctly. They had a singer-drummer with a very unique, distinct and "weird" (maybe high-pitched?) voice. I'm pretty sure that the band only had one full-length album and they were mentioned as a part of people discussing amazing bands that only ever released a single album (Infester, Demilich, Lykathea Aflame etc.)

Spurdo is dead too. Unironically, metal as a genre at least has its core auditory and sparks of legit creativity here and there, everything else is even deader

I wouldn't say metal dies with Ozzy. They said that about psychedelia when Jerry Garcia died. And then the jamband thing just got started (and still continues) and raved peaked.

The whole thing with Ozzy and Sabbath is they started a style and legacy that will continue perpetually. Or as long as white people exist lol

this thread rips on older heavy metal all the time and generally talks about more extreme genres like death and black metal that are more fringe, with some thrash.
Something like Sabbath and Ozzy's early solo career have widespread appeal and at this point while still technically heavy metal, doesn't sound so abrasive so you hear Iron Man and Crazy Train on classic rock stations on the radio. Like normies will listen to Ozzy and enjoy it.
Normies will listen to some Thrash as well
but Death Metal and Black Metal filter a lot of people because they're too abrasive sounding and subject matter too dark.
