The songs are what made his operas famous. If you never got into baroque opera you might not be familiar with how simple the songwriting formula was then compared a lot of the opera that came later. He has a point. But people are too caught up emotionally right now. Even I was initially. I have listened to Black Sabbath a lot. And some solo-Ozzy. But Ozzy was a deeply flawed person lets not forget that. My main gripe is his animal abuse.
The most hilarious replies are the ones who say Varg only has a career thanks to Ozzy and Black Sabbath. But Varg was never a metalhead. His biggest musical inspirations are not Metal. His favorite album is Disintegration by The Cure.
I can agree he timed this post badly though. People will just see him as disrespectful.

Just because early Burzum was somewhat inspired by Bathory (who was influenced by Black Sabbath to some degree) does not mean everyone who has at some point played amplified music since 1970 somehow owes everything to Ozzy forever.
Boomers only stumbled onto "pioneering" Metal. Gen X refined it and perfected it. Millennials killed it.
Ozzy and Black Sabbath did not consider themselves Metal either. They started out as a Blues Rock band before they had the idea to play Mars Bringer of War through an amp. Gustav Holst created Metal.

What's your favorite USPM? I love tracks like Nightquest by Nightwish (is this one power metal?), Raise my Sword by Galneryus, Hunting High and Low by Stratovarius. But other than Angel of Salvation by Galneryus i've yet to find a whole power metal album that really did it for me.
