to be fair I have basically zero idea what post-hardcore actually is
is it like what underoath was doing after they were metal but before they renounced jesus?
or is it like public image ltd but heavier?
is converge post hardcore or is that just metalcore and if they're metalcore what the fuck is bring me the horizon?

If you mean the guy that always posts three cheers with the whole thing about how pound for pound can we agree yadda yadda, no I am not MCRfag
I've heard the term post-hardcore used for years and always assumed it was one of those things like "emo" where there are like six different waves now that all sound totally different, just asking for clarification. If I don't ask, I will never know.

Definitely, this album completely mogs all other post-hardcore that came both before and after, revolutionized the genre, but MCR had to leave it, they took pity on less talent bands (like Thursday, Emery etc...) and left this genre for them, so they wouldn't starve and could survive, very noble on their part.

Post-hardcore in general relied on being formulaic, so that one trick ponies like Thursday could appear bright by screeching on a mic, but even after MCR nobly left the staleness of the genre's 2000s era behind, likely to help Thursday out, they still managed to lose to sleeping with sirens, pierce the veil, and pretty much any noob that came along.

Btw glassjaw is a forgotten irrelevant band whose whole discography https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?b=1713 is mogged by any single MCR song https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?b=1334 But don't be sad, next time Gerard throws out a song, for being "not good enough/below him" both Thursday/glassjaw can finally have a hit, maybe their magnum opus too.

that's because 1) it's a stupid term that is basically meaningless 2) rymers are painfully autistic and think that assigning genre tags is a deeply creative act and whoever assigns the weirdest genres wins
anyway the genre is supposed to be music that uses the elements for hardcore punk but mixes them all up to create something that is NOT hardcore punk, but you can see how quickly that unravels.

No, the Black Parade is the funeral of the inferior bands who died along the way, Thursday being only 1 example out of hundreds, MCR bid them all farewell, and went towards glory, leaving scene/emo/hardcore etc... behind, as a stepping stone.

honestly this is true. The Black Parade is the ascendance of a band to legendary status, all by album #3. What other band in the scene was doing an album of that depth and brilliance while still being accessible and memorable? Can't think of any except MCR. Then, instead of repeating their extremely successful formula, they completely changed it up on Danger Days and Conventional Weapons. And after all that, they quit while they were away ahead

Cry and Cope. How many albums has Thursday, or any of the bands mentioned here sold ? 0.5m ? 1m ? 2m ? MCR sold more albums than Thursday, glassjaw, Pierce the Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, Emery, Underoath, Bring Me the Horizon combined ! ! !, with only 4 albums MCR blew away the whole "emo" market, and defined what "emo" even meant, had they released 6, all the other bands would starve and break up, like a meteor, they burnt brightly illuminating the world for a short time, and went out on a high note, while all the other bands declined .

I'd love to see MCR/Gerard evolve through other genres, I see his revenge/emo era as his glam rock moment, and TBP as Thin White Duke, a pity he never bothered to name his characters. He's 48 now, the same age Bowie was when Outside came out, would be a blessing to see MCR experiment with prog, shoegaze, goth/space rock, synth etc... I'd just hope no return to pop punk/emo, as much as I love Revenge, I'd like to one day look back at their history, and see a similar evolution.
