What’s a good song to learn tonight to teach me some cool chords or progressions? I know a lot of covers already so it must be fairly obscure. I was thinking maybe the boys are back in town by thin lizzy but that seems like a chore at least for tonight.

I said song not some jazz freak jerking his guitar off

I’m thinking more along the lines of popular songs that aren’t the typical ozzy Led Zeppelin Red Hot Chili Peppers Metallica etc shit everyone knows. Possum Kingdom by the toadies is a good example, lots of creed, stp, and smashing pumpkins stuff fit into what I’m looking for. Even like eve 6 - inside out or whatever. Something easy and fun to learn but has cool chords.

I also have a LP BFG. but mine has two black soap bar P-90 pickups.
It's a nice guitar, but I thought it was too "Gimmicky", although, from a far distance the paint job looks like zebra stripes.

Not my usual go to guitar, but it's still nice, and fun to play.

It's a Gibson Les Paul Barely Finished Guitar. (BFG)
I'm not sure if that model was made as is, or if somebody did any custom work on it.
I ave one myself. (See. >>127147868 )
They were a limited edition.
I was lucky and got mine on close out for about $700.00 (U.S.) at the time. They also made an SG version, but the SG versions I saw didn't have P-90 pick ups, so I never bought one. I have plenty of other SGs anyway.

I should also mention that this is a 'Weight relief" guitar, meaning that the body has been somewhat hollowed out, so it's lighter than an average Les Paul model guitar.
As I said, they were a limited edition, so they won't be easy to find, and chances are, you'll only find them used, and not new.

But good luck in finding one for under a grand, anyway.

a lot of the late 2000s studios are chambered too and are a great platform for modding/customizing
the studio fadeds basically just kept value with inflation so you can snag one for $800-900 or less if they are a bit dinged up.

i think i finally saw the Mesa Boogie Tetragrammaton of Gain Staging and now have a liquid mk1 rhythm/lead distortion (treble knob does everything) in channel 1, and a sparkly pushed tweed on channel 2 that cleans up with volume knob. the thing is the master volume actually works, which surprised me. and, taking two speakers out of the 4x12 makes it sound amazing.

The other thing I forgot to mention is that if you want to downtune or run heavy gauge strings a regular nut is going to suck. A Floyd or Ibanez locking trem can accept most heavy string gauges without modifications and like I said they actually stay in tune. You’re going to have to be ultra light handed with your trem bar and probably tune up after every song or two.

He doesn't have a lot of string guage versatility with it being a 7-str regardless, but in general stop tails are much easier to migrate string guages on than a floating trem.
Also if he doesn't care about divebombs or crazy bends there's no real reason to introduce the complexity of a floating trem. Look at what he's coming from.

NTA but I took a quick gander, there's a 2005 HR Giger Ibanez up for about $4k on Reverb but it's a different release.
Looking for this one, I found ONE recently sold on Vintage but the price was confidential. I'm willing to bet $8-$10k IF you can find one, this one of those things you'll be waiting for years to see.
While not as articulated (and I think its a vinyl top instead of metal) there's an HR Giger Fireman too that's pretty rad.

The very basics of Intervals can be learned from a 15 minute youtube video, but I'm not sure what the other poster is talking about as you won't understand how intervals are derived if you don't know the major scale.
Most of the work on this subject is memorization, the conceptual part is really simple.

If you know the chords, you know intervals. You know a major barre chord? Then you know a interval, which is the first two strings of the barre. Or a triad is the first three and what some would usually a call a power chord.
If you know cowboy chords, then the interval would be broken down in it's own way. Like a G Major cowboy chord - the interval would be the open G string and D at the 2nd string on the 3rd fret.
Basically, learn basic chords first. Then you automatically know the intervals that they're built from.

Very little of this is right. Strings are seperated by 4ths and are not variable intervals. Intervals are derived from a notes position in a key's diatonic scales. Power chords are not triads, triads are the root, third and 5th of a chord and have nothing to do with string positions. In fact power chords don't use the 3rd at all, and are just the root and the 5th. A 3-string power chord is just the root, the 5th and an octave of the root again. Because power chords don't include the 3rd they are "magic" in that they can be played in a major or minor context. They are not triads.

That's true but not not the full context.
Part of the issue with Gibson is that if they ever stop attempting to defend their trademarks they will potentially lose the ability to claim it belongs to them if the design becomes deemed "generic."
It's called trademark abandonment due to failure to enforce.

There's also people who don't even want to call it a proper chord (but a dyad). But saying it isn't a triad is even up for debate. Music theory is not the Law of Physics. And there's no Council deciding all of it for you. It's just fucking dorks who never did fucking anything worth a shit who want to make rules. Some would call it an indeterminate triad. With it you can conquer the whole world, with enough bluster, that is. Something this important shouldn't be shelved to the side.

What are some rules or knowledge I can apply to create settings that highlight mistakes as much as possible during practice? Regardless of whether the resulting sound is shit from a performance perspective.

Examples:
Distortion highlights bad muting, but masks bad dynamics.
Bridge pickup highlights mistakes better than neck pickup.
Reverb/Delay mask unclean play.
etc.

Any eq settings I can apply to further help my goal?

Of an acoustic? Maybe a tiny bit, but I doubt it'd be noticeable outside of a lab environment.
Acoustic instruments want air for reverberation, not more mass.
On electric it wouldn't matter a whit as that's not how pickups work.

learn your major scale; everything is derived from it.with this you can: know all scale shapes, know all chord shapes, build your relative pitch, learn the nashville number system, understand the positions on the fretboard. it also helps you learn songs because 98% of people are playing in a scalar sense (not just random notes).
to practice with it you can: sing your scales, dissect and build your own chords to see how they sound, experiment with chord embellishments like walk-ups and hammer ons, hear how chord inversions work against a harmony, use target notes and chord tones to build solos (improv/composition training).

Okay, since you can't put it together yourself let me break it down as simply as I can so your sub 70 IQ ass can understand it.
1. These people can practice with a metronome till the universe dies of heat death, their rhythm is not going to improve.
2. Metronomes are not the only way to practice timing.
3. Metronomes are not the only way to practice timing.
4. Metronomes are not the only way to practice timing.

Mozart never wrote any metronome markings. Not only was the metronome a later invention, but the composer never even used other timepieces, such as the chronometer or the clock, the use of which played a much too minor role.

depends on your genre. if you want to play dadrock or metal you can just chug a single note. in general bass in a lot harder because you have to play in time, in a way that compliments the harmony, and make other players better. guitar you can just hit a chord a few times per bar and play the godawfullest solo and only people who understand music will be mad at you.

> What makes bass easier
It's not. It's just that people have lower expectations when it comes to bass players (just chug some root notes) and by extension most bassplayers have low expectations when it comes to themselves.

In short: bass is not easier as an instrument to be good at. However it is easier to be a bass player that most people will be happy with.

These YouTube queebs are the ones who reinforce the offset memes. It’s a double edged sword, on the one hand I want them to become more popular. On the other hand, I kinda like that they’re niche and less common. The best outcome would be for cooler people to start playing them to wash out some of the reddit/onions connotations associated with offsets. Maybe my next Mustang could be Chud themed, I’ll get large sticker of David Duke and have confederate flag inlays… gonna take it back a bit from the reddit crowd.
