It's crazy how the run of Sad Wings, Sin After Sin and Stained Class rewrote the template of heavy metal one by one. SWOD introduced a new kind of heaviness, SAS introduced the speed and percussive aggression, and SC brought it all together with a refined finish.

Cool heavy metal album, but Priest really manifested their own unique style and changed rock forever with their next album, Sin After Sin.

The songs that appeared on Unleashed In The East, (Or Priest In The East, depending on what country you live in) are much better live, than in the studio.

yeah peak priest was like point of entry through ram it down. Sad wings and rocka rolla was just shitty gay rock but a few songs like Beyond the realms of Death are good and the live performances later on are better than the album version

When will Boomers and Metalheads admit that Metal was just the result of a bored Blues Rock band deciding to play Mars, the Bringer of War through an electric guitar amplifier one day?

Stop listening to most music ever made then. Musicians have always tended to be shady, flawed personalities.
Protip some of the best music ever made is/was made by horrible people.

Stained Class grew on me, because I learned Priest through British Steel. I never became fond of Screaming... besides its title track, always liked Defenders more and I suspect Priest do too. What to me seems peculiar is that whenever Metal Hammer brought up Sin After Sin, either as a review of a reissue or a review of Priest's history, they always downplayed it for its mixing/production, when in reality it's the first album where they have realised themselves. And although I grew up with Stained Class and grew to love it very quickly, I always skipped Exciter, although now that I think of it I miss it a bit, might play it later.
