is it a good idea to start a band if you are in your 30s?
>>127148292 (OP)Just do it, stop caring so much about other people
>>127148292 (OP)If you want to be famous starting a band is a bad idea period. You're better off pirating FL Studio and watching Youtube tutorials

>>127148398nice message. The dude from mad men started his career at 40 so I know it's not too late, but at the same time I do feel like time is just passing me by and so are my dreams. So if I want to achieve ANYTHING I have to escape the crippling numbness of inaction

>>127148292 (OP)MC Ride and the Death Grips were in their 30s when they started the group. and IIRC he was bussing tables before it took off, so that ended up working out for them.
>>127148292 (OP)Im 43 and plan to start another one. Im probably going juggle that and go to school for world history and write philosophy.
Guided by Voices took off when Robert Pollard was in his 30s. He was a school teacher up to then.
>>127148292 (OP)I'm in the midst of this situation myself. it's been a lifelong dream of mine but life always seemed to get in the way, and I lost my motivation at some point.
now trying to rediscover whatever it was that used to motivate me. the fact is it's a ton of work if you want to do it and you need to find some deep inner drive to be able to put in the effort necessary, especially while dealing with usual adult life shit.
>>127148292 (OP)go for it unc, half these bands are already on life support anyways

it's a fun social thing to do
i make music and have some friends I play with once in a while hard to get anyone to do anything regular
getting a rehearsal space/place for drums at a place accessible to everyone involved means someone basically has to have a house
viewing it as a career or major life thing or something is pretty retarded though
i wouldn't expect like other anons to say you'll be like "swans or gbv" you aren't "on the verge of getting big and they had been playing in projects for years with people and building up a bunch of related skills in songwriting/playing.
as a fun thing sure, it's much easier if you like solo recording/songwriting and have people who can practice with but that seems nigh impossible unless you happen to be near a bunch of people or something.
note: ALL of my friends said they "want to" or agreed to play with me or something, most people are just lying and they are not at all willing to put any time/effort/work/practice to actually be helpful. Getting anyone to show up at all is probably best case sceanrio.
if you are good at an instrument you might be better off joining some other band idk I think I probably just need to move to a more music focused place.
but:
learning an intrument, songwriting, recording, playing with friends/finding people to play with: all good to do in your 30s depending on what else you have going on
expecting to make it big or be a career/life thing: delusional
actually able to find people to do stuff consistently with that will actually practice or show up to rehearsal: unlikely

It's NEVER a good idea to start a band.
It sure is, man, go for it! A band needs good chemistry among the members so be sure to find the right folks and have lots of fun!
>>127148292 (OP)Do you have talent? You have bands in their 70s still touring and drawing in big crowds man, if you got the moves there's decades ahead of you.
I don't know anyone to start a band, it's over
I'm 29 yo and bald
life is over for me, I threw all my chances away too soon
now it's just reaping what I've sown
What famous musical groups ever found fame in middle age, who weren't already famous. You need youth to make it big. You're too late.
