Anyone notice that all the singers from 2000-2010 look the same? Eyeliner, spikey hair, what the fuck?

โ€œNealโ€™s death had hit me harder than I knew; Iโ€™d been obsessing on the loss of one of the most inspiring people Iโ€™d ever known personally. At one point in the show, I entered a state of total brain-sag โ€” frighteningly, nothing that was being played made any sense to me. I was so panicked that I stopped playing to try to figure it out.

โ€œEven worse, I suddenly noticed that Jerry was glaring at me from across the stage โ€” something that had never happened before. I was so distressed that I stared blankly back at him.

โ€œAfter the show, as I was trying to slink out without anyone noticing, I encountered Jerry at the top of the stairs leading to the dressing room. He grabbed me by the collar, and snarled, โ€˜You play, motherfucker!โ€™ and shoved me aside. I tripped over my own feet and fell down the stairs right on my ass. Jerry was normally such a sweetheart that I was shocked beyond belief at being physically manhandled by him. I must have provoked him beyond reason, something I promised myself I would avoid assiduously in the future.โ€

Lesh left the gig that night and was promptly splashed and drenched by passing police car driving through a large puddle. According to Lesh, Garcia apologized for the altercation when the band gathered at the Carousel for the following eveningโ€™s show

You'd have a humbucker that usually gives a very clean sound, and a P90 that gives a warm but relatively punchy single-coil sound. It's a rare combination but, in my experience, a very good one if you want to make both soft dream pop and grungy hard stuff.
It's a very versatile guitar and you could extensively mod it without it being too much a piece of work and with great results, for instance swapping the pickups of course, and also putting a push-pull for the humbucker if it doesn't come by default (which it should).
But you shouldn't even compare this one with a tele or a strat because it's a completely unique setup. You're not having a strat sound and I'm not familiar with the tele at all, but I know for a fact unless you split the humbucker you won't have a single-coil sharp sound, and strats as a matter of fact all have a capacitor that makes the treble "bleed" in high frequencies which makes them sound the way they do. I don't know about teles though.
Like I said, and honestly, if you want to sound like a strat or tele you can absolutely go for that G&L and mod the fuck out of it for sure. I would have so much fun splitting the humbucker, adding a capacitor to the pickup circuit, eventually changing the P-90 for a humless, etc.
The guitar is beautiful on top of that.

NARRATOR (gravelly, tired):
The day started like any other. Hot wind, cold coffee, and regret waftin' through the air like the stink of a blown tube amp.
That's when he walked in again.

(Door creaks open, bell jingles)
Mountain.

They say he ain't a man, not really. More like a concept in cargo shorts, drifting from one Guitar Center to the next. Leaves behind a trail of confused employees, broken input jacks, and a stench that ainโ€™t natural nor explainable by science.

He came in wearin' a sleeveless flannel, faded from years of sweat and shredded dreams. His hair looked like a tornado hit a ZZ Top record, and he carried that damn Epiphone SG like it was forged in the fires of Mt. Discount.

MOUNTAIN (cheerful, off-kilter):
Afternoon, sport. Just here to give my SG her weekly run.
Sheโ€™s been achinโ€™ to sing.
Anonymous No.127167494
NARRATOR:
That damned SG. Itโ€™s got a cracked headstock and a sticker that says โ€œNot For Saleโ€”Spiritually.โ€ The man strummed a single chord and all hell broke loose.

(Fuzzed out distorted chord, feedback whines like a banshee)

The walls trembled. A Roland JC-120 caught fire. Some kid in the acoustic room started weeping. One of the employees tried to stop him. Poor kid didnโ€™t know you canโ€™t put out a wildfire with a lanyard and a polite request.

EMPLOYEE (panicked):
Sir! Please! This is a place of business!

MOUNTAIN (softly, almost sad):
Business is boominโ€™, bucko.

NARRATOR:
Then came the song. Wasnโ€™t quite a cover of โ€œKiss Meโ€ by Sixpence None the Richer, but it wasnโ€™t not that either.
It was warped. Slow. Like he was playin' it through a puddle of time.
Every note hung in the air like cigarette smoke in a confession booth.

Folks tried to leave, but they couldnโ€™t. Not 'til the loop pedal gave out.
One guy said he saw God, and she looked annoyed.

And just when we thought the worst was overโ€ฆ it happened.

(Wet squelching sound. Distant gasps. A cymbal crashes.)

NARRATOR:
No one ever sees it coming.
Not even him.

MOUNTAIN (gentle, sincere):
Well, it happened again.
Sorry about the Fender wall.

NARRATOR:
He left the same way he always does. Quietly. Mysteriously.
Leaving behind only the smell of flame-grilled sorrow and reverb thatโ€™d make a grown man doubt his choices.

(Door creaks open. Bell jingles. Fades shut.)

NARRATOR (low, reflective):
Theyโ€™ll clean the carpets.
Theyโ€™ll retune the demo guitars.
But theyโ€™ll never forget him.

Mountain.
A man. A myth. A natural disaster

Other problem is it has a Floyd and this guitar has the larger tremolo bridge pickup. They make a JB trem version so thatโ€™s probably what Iโ€™ll have to go with. not really. the problem is the angle coming out of the backside of the nut going to the d and g strings. just compensate the back side of the nut and you won't have any problems. too shallow of a break angle like a fender A string causes problems but having a steep break angle does nothing but put more pressure on the saddle and nut

The volute on Martin 28 series (and the blingy stuff based on the 28, like the D-45, etc) is purely to not piss off traditionalists. They're just like Gibson guys here. And they do buy them. They don't demand and bitch for the sake of it. So Martin doesn't see the change it. I guess just like Gibson.

Also to add...
Even though the D-35 was a high number, it was actually made with budgeting in mind originally when they wanted to salvage as much rosewood as they could (Brazilian in those days). So they used small pieces for a 3 piece back. But maybe that made it less "fancy" in Martin's mind.. so it didn't get the fancy diamond volute. Just a guess.

so like 97dB is fine for half an hour

the gojira one has a great model of a whammy if you have an expression pedal handy and like the digital artifact-y sound, a bunch of the heavy ones just have a straight detune knob. if you just use that and none of the other parts of the plugin, you can run it into anything else you normally use. having said that, the plugins can produce some great sounds

The thing with these advanced teachers is they assume you already know the basics. If you aren't already an intermediate player don't bother, they aren't going to hold your hand, if you can't see what someones playing just by looking at their hand you aren't ready for advanced lessons.

Im aware that many famous guitarists made their careers by learning 3 chords, its referred to as "3 chords and the truth". but the world is full of bands that can only crank out the same riffs over and over, so I dont recommend anyone be self taught unless they are learning for fun or enjoy being a poor professional musician with zero prospects for fame

I don't recommend guitar in any capacity for that. Even the "big names" in modern guitar are tiny compared to what used to be possible. Instrument and music in general is dead in the water culturally.

Fast picked shredding. Been at it for 30 years and no matter how much I practice I canโ€™t play alternate picked runs above like 150bpm. I practiced stuff like no more tears solo for a month and I just can never get fast and smooth enough for it to be natural. I managed to record it once perfect but never again. Idk why. I can play almost any rock or blues solo and most faster legato but when it comes to really fast alternate picking I canโ€™t sync my hands up properly. Itโ€™s frustrating, but Iโ€™m so good at boomer bends, vibrato and other techniques that I donโ€™t dwell on it too much.
